Beginnings of labour? Should I feel this bulge down below?!

My due date is today. Already had a ds (20mo). Woke up with chronic back ache and cramps at the top of the thighs, chilled out today with my TENS machine (having a home birth so not much else to do). The pain has subsided to be a bit dull, but I am suddenly acutely aware of a bulge in my fanjo. It feels as though there is a grapefruit pressing against it from the other side...could this be the head and is it normal to feel this? Or could it be my waters?

Ds was an easy labour (woke up 10 cms gone and literally began to push whole ordeal was over in a few hours) so I "missed" the beginnings of labour and have no idea what I should be expecting. I know not to bother my midwife to come out until I have contractions/a show (have rung to let her know I'm feeling a bit weird though).

Is it normal?

2 births and always found pushing actually makes it hurt less. At least it means the end is near and you can hasten getting the bugger out! All the best. Someone mentioned virtual sniffs of new baby. Oooo please!

BOO!!! Nickel did that startle you? Trying to induce labour here!

Wolfiefan · 02/12/2011 19:05

Oh and I never had a show. You may not notice it!

ExquisiteChristmasCake · 02/12/2011 19:05

Had lots of mucus she said that when she examined me today the plastic thingy was covered and then so was her hand

Gloria- Not pushing but having some sort of feeling that something is about to happen. I don't want her to turn up and sort of twiddle her hands...there's 2 midwives, the student midwife, my mother and husband all going to be sat there waiting for something to happen.

My mother is eating liquorice and the bag is irritating the hell out of me.

I reckon you are having that baby verrrrrrrry soon.

Yay Grin x

GloriaTheHighlyFlavouredLady · 02/12/2011 19:05

You're way past show stage anyway.

There is no way you'll use much of the 12 hours and further no way the mw can haul you inti hospital. What she gonna do handcuff you?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 02/12/2011 19:07

I am as grumpy as hell when I am about to pop.

A sure sign.

eeeeep

travellingwilbury · 02/12/2011 19:07

There is NO way you are going to go longer than 12 hours .

Ring her now and get that gas and air .

Mum1369 · 02/12/2011 19:07

Not requiring of photographic evidence, just happy they are not going to get stuck in your bits...mind I'm guessing a pine needle up the bum may go unnoticed at this stage...

OhThisIsJustGrape · 02/12/2011 19:08

You really do sound like you are in transition. All I wanted to do at that stage was go to sleep.

Please get your DH to call the MW, who cares if it's a little way off yet? Surely you don't want an unattended birth?

You have done amazingly well this far, don't go and scare yourself shitless by delivering without a MW present.

I say 19.38, 8pm 5oz :)

GloriaTheHighlyFlavouredLady · 02/12/2011 19:08

So are you just ignoring your Dh and mum giving them dirty looks whilst posting to us on your phone?

ExquisiteChristmasCake · 02/12/2011 19:08

I think I might get some shut eye to be honest, I'm so drowsy...might not help that the room is warm ish.

Just downed a pint of water too. Yum.

Hmmm not too sure what to do.

Fisharefriendsnotmincepies · 02/12/2011 19:09

Come on ECC, just about to watch McEnroe play tennis and won't be able check my phone!

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 02/12/2011 19:09

Dont worry about her twiddling her hands. I have had two home births and MWs are very happy to have a look and faff about for a bit. They will go and come back if they think you have a while to go.

lia66 · 02/12/2011 19:09

RING THE BLOODY MIDWIFE

ExquisiteChristmasCake · 02/12/2011 19:10

Yes Gloria. They're now watching Stargate SG some shit and talking about it. I'm just breathing on my ball "outnumbered" in choice of channel.

Am on laptop now as it's quicker to type.

Now my father is at the door. Great.

Have a baby? Grin

GloriaTheHighlyFlavouredLady · 02/12/2011 19:11

She won't have to twiddle her fingers, she coukd post here whilst you sleep.

usingapseudonym · 02/12/2011 19:11

Ring the flipping mw! There is no way you are going to be another 12 hours (and if you were there would probably be something wrong!).

lia66 · 02/12/2011 19:12

have ctx slowed down OP?

HugosGoatee · 02/12/2011 19:12

You should clearly have priority on the telly Shock may I suggest the MiC end of season party if you haven't seen it? Was ace.

usingapseudonym · 02/12/2011 19:12

PS - I am incredibly excited for you. Being that my labour hasn't kicked off properly yet - you're going to have a baby very very very soon!!!

I am still amazed you are online through it all - I'm hoping to copy you in terms of coping :)

ExquisiteChristmasCake · 02/12/2011 19:13

Not 12 hours. I just don't feel I need her yet...I'll wait til my breathing starts getting quite "impatient".

Still uncomfortable and not in pain. Might get some shut eye.
