Positive test results but worries about early menopause

Hello this is the first time I've posted here and I would appreciate some help (sorry if this is long). Have 1 dd who will be 3 next week, been 'trying' for a baby since around July (when I say trying I mean we stopped using condoms but thats it, didn't follow ovaluation cycles etc just had sex when we felt like it). Since having my dd periods been crappy and didn't get on with the pill at all, constantly having break through bleeds etc. Came off about 6 months ago and switched to condoms. Don't know if it was linked but started to pile weight on around the same time. Joined a gym and lost nearly a stone but couldn't get it any lower. Constantly felt tired all the time, had night sweats before each period (have had night sweats before but linked to illness, and on and off when I was breastfeeding dd) and my period cycles were on average 40 days. went to doctor in end as worried about hyperthyroid (a few women in our family have it) and potentially early menopause etc9not happened to anyone in family but happened to a friend) . Doctor rang me at 7pm to ask what stage I was in my period cycle when blood test taken, I told her she said that explained the 'hormone levels' and not to worry everything fine. I must admit this scared me a bit.

Started to worry again as last time took 6 weeks to get pregnant and have been trying for nearly 5 months. Period was due either last Friday or tomorrow (irregular cycle) and on Tuesday noticed blood when wiping. Put on sanitary wear and had a little bit more blood but barely nothing. and then it just stopped and nothing since. Going out tomorow with a bunch of friends (big drinking night) and thought I'd test just in case, the test has come up positive, 2-3 weeks (Clear Blue digital test).

My worry is my friend went through early menopause, just before she was 40, and the way she found out was she thought she was pregnant, went to the doctors and then found out it was the menopause. She was devastated.

Has anyone had any experience of this? Any advice greatly appreciated

hi, I haven't had any experience but didn't want to read & run and I do have experience of getting pregnant at 39, will be 40 before it's popped. I think it's probably more likely that you're pregnant than menopause but realise you don't want to get your hopes up. I think spotting is quite common in pregnancy so wouldn't worry about that.
This time I went to my GP around 7 wks and she arranged booking in etc. I guess you could call and see if they'd see you earlier. Do you have any pregnancy symptons, tiredness (v.easy with DD1) and breast tenderness were very pronounced. I thought it was normal for your temperature to go up before your period too. Sorry not to be much help.

Thanks oltob. I'm 35 this month which is why I am a bit worried. The problem I have is because we've been trying I've kind of been 'imagining' pregnancy signs on and off for a couple of months. I thought my sense of smell was more intense last couple of weeks, i've been tired, but my dd has had a virus for a week and not sleeping great so.... I am not sure whether they are real or I just want them to be. I think you are right, I will make an appointment to see the doctor and tell them my worries. Get things confirmed one way or another.

Thanks for your help

I think that positive is probably meaning ur pregnant and not menopausal, the blood could be that bit of late implantation bleeding. I'm only 21 so don't know much about menopause but 35 is very early, although certainly not impossible. Like u said, go to the doctors and get another done. I hope it goes the way u want ... And if u are then congratulations!

hi tickle, just wondering how you're getting on - hope it went well with the doc.

Congratulations!
I am 43 and have also worried previously about age and menopause.

It is possible to get a positive test when you are in menopause, HCG levels can get up to about 15, which can turn a sensitive home pregnancy test positive, or give you a 1-2 weeks on the digital, but not be pregnant.

The fact that you got a 2-3 on the test, really is too high for just menopause (also most women go through perimenipause for a while before menopause happens too)

It sounds like your body has been readjusting to being off the pill for the last few months. But it does look like congrats are in order for you now.
