I have a transverse baby I am 28 weeks and I am booked for a c-section at 39 weeks (not because of this baby being transverse but for previous birth problems) anyway my Ob said today that if baby is still lying transverse at 37+ I will have to be admitted to the FAU and then if they see fit admitted to the ward. Does anyone know why this is I did not seem to be able to get a straight answer from him and I am unsure why it makes any difference if I am having a c-sec anyway ? or does it? help!!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

What is the FAU?

Is this in case you go into labour naturally?

Do you live quite far from the hospital?

I think it's because with transverse babies the risk of a cord prolapse is higher so they would keep you in just incase you went into spontaneous labour.

because if your waters go then the placenta will come first and you will need an emergency C section as the babys shoulder quite often lies on the placenta

I am 27 weeks and transverse so did a bit of googling - never a good thing

FAU- Fetal Assesment Unit.

And thank you both it could be either of those reasons then I guess, but at least I have an idea as to why he said I would be admitted.

I hope he moves then, but he has been in this spot since 20 weeks at least so I am not sure he will :-/
