Hiding Bloated Belly - 1st Tri

Hi,

I've got my work's xmas dinner & dance this Friday and all my dresses are horribly snug and definitely make me look suspiciously pregnant! At the moment I am having to wear scarves to work that drape down my front to hide my tummy!

I'm only 9 weeks but have had horrible bloating since about 6 weeks and after looking at old photos my belly is the same size as when I was 20 weeks pregnant with DS! Blush The MW said that first time round your muscles fight hard to hold it in but 2nd time they don't even bother and are like 'oh hello, I know what to do here' and hey ho it sticks out much earlier!

Any tips on hiding an extending belly? I've got a dress which sort of hides it but it's a bit snug, is it okay to wear those suck in pants you get if you're pregnant or is that even a silly question to be asking ?!!Shock

Thanks
Pie

Hey I am in exactly the same boat as you - 9 weeks and huge/bloated already, I only have one pair of jeans that fit.
I have a really low cut black dress with ruffles that go down the way from under the boobs and it hides my belly brilliantly - my works do is this Saturday!
I would say those pants would be fine, if your stomach muscles usually hold the baby in first time round then a pair of tight pants would surely do the same job and wouldnt do any harm for a few hours. Might not be the most comfy night you've ever had! Hope you enjoy the party - I plan on drinking something sparkling that looks like G&T!

PieMistress · 29/11/2011 20:09

I've thankfully got a very good and very believable excuse for not drinking which is one less thing to worry about!

Hadn't thought about the pants/tummy muscles sort of doing the same thing! Doubt i'll be able to breathe though after a huge meal!

same problem here, but tbh, I've already been wearing spanx to work!

naturopath · 29/11/2011 20:19

haven't decided what to wear for the various parties coming up - will be a serious problem. One person has already guessed Blush

McPhee · 29/11/2011 20:23

Nine weeks also, and ALSO down to one pair of fecking jeans already! This is my first baby though, so don't know what my stomach muscles excuse is Blush

PieMistress · 29/11/2011 20:47

I feel better! (is that bad?) Blush at least it's not just me :)

I think the fact i'm constantly peckish doesn't help either! I've given up on jeans just now as I also seem to have expanded in the rear too! Tunics seem to be the way forward at the moment!

Is there any way that a large, loosely tied belt could be added to the dress you were thinking of? I've found that breaking up the top half from the bottom draws the attention away from your overall shape. I'm 11 weeks (with twins!) and probably comparable to 18 weeks with my previous pregnancy. On Sunday I wore a dress (all-in-one colour wrap dress with ties around the waist that made me look suspiciously pregnant - I had to do the scarf trick), but when I wear a two piece outfit with a belt no one would ever know.

PieMistress · 29/11/2011 21:03

I have just tried on the dress I bought a week ago and I can't do the zip up!!!!

EMERGENCY!

Do you still have the tags on so you can take it back?

PieMistress · 29/11/2011 21:16

still thankfully yes but now I have one late shopping night to find an alternative before Sat night - eeks!

Good luck Piemistress :) I am suffering the same at nearly 11 weeks pg. I have a considerable belly issue. All my regular jeans are annoying the hell out of me, especially as the day progresses. It is my third so no stomach muscles left to speak of but I'm crapping myself that it's twins. Scan not until a week Monday!

PieMistress · 29/11/2011 22:02

Thanks wasabi I actually dug out my low rise maternity jeans just now and was stupidly happy that they were so comfortable (and considerably more flattering on my bum than my regular jeans)! I'm 1.5 stone heavier than when I conceived DS so I was scared none of my maternity jeans would fit

So, any suggestions for high street dresses most welcome! :)

I had a reassurance scan on Sunday (as miscarried) last time so know it's not twins!

OOOH ladies I cant believe that things have got like this so soon!!. I to am pg with #3 and worrying now that i'm not going to be able to conceal it, didn't want to say anything at work until about 20 weeks!

Im currently 5 weeks so got a little while left before Im the same as you lovely ladies,
Stillin how did you find out early you was having twins? I too am at risk of multiple births?

StillinMyPJs · 30/11/2011 12:03

Goingmad Ideally I wanted to hide this pg until 20 weeks too! I found out at a dating scan at 9 weeks. I had no idea. I thought that the awful 24 hour nausea was due to me expecting a girl. I also thought that the sonographer was looking at the baby from two different angles (hence two images), so she had to explain that there were actually two there. There are no twins in my family and so it was a complete surprise!

Looking back, just before the scan I worked out that the top of my uterus should be about 3cm below my belly button (belly button = 12 weeks) but I could not feel it anywhere and promptly blamed it on the few extra pounds that I have there. Once I got home I easily felt it 1cm above my belly button! So I suppose that is what 'large for dates' mean.

Sorry for the hijack OP :)

PieMistress · 30/11/2011 12:54

Not at all, nice to hear your story still :) Congrats on your twins! Are you going to find out the gender?

I just went and bought the same dress in the next size up so crisis is temporarily over!

Great to hear that you have found something to wear. You can enjoy yourself now and just worry about explaining why you are not drinking!

I'm not sure whether I'll find out the gender. I was going to have a surprise, but I think I've had enough surprises for now.

purplehonesty · 04/12/2011 17:08

Hey pie, how was your night out??? Mine sucked, I was in bed by 9pm they were so late serving dinner that I was shaking by the time I got fed and then couldn't eat my tea for feeling so sick.
Never mind, I got a lie in and some bacon ad eggs for breakfast!

PieMistress · 04/12/2011 18:10

Friday night was great although it was a bit of a mad dash to get there for 7pm. There is absolutely no way I could have eaten all I did in the smaller dress as after 4 courses the bigger one was tight! Blush. I did wonder if the crab risotto with battered king prawns starter was okay for me to eat (quick check on phone said yes) and my it was absolutely delicious! We got home at 1130pm and then had to leave for a wedding on Saturday morning which was a 3hr drive away.

It was a bit harder to get away with not drinking at that one but nobody asked any awkward questions. The dress I wore to the wedding didn't fit at all! But you know what I just didn't care! I wore a scarf to sort of hide my belly and it was cold in the hall so I wore DP's suit jacket most of the night! :) Had another food dilemma when they served smoked salmon for starter (google said okay) but gave DP the chocolate mousse!

Now home and totally knackered! Just need to get DS in bed so we can watch X Factor then go to bed! ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I am 10 weeks but I am constantly bloated from about 5-6 weeks. I am quite slim and did not gain any weigh ( just lost some) but in the evenings I have this sticking out bump that I fell bad about. I wanted to hide it until 20 weeks and with the first pregnancy no one would guess until I was 22-24 weeks along.
I used Spanks + dresses for work and it really helps as it distributes pressure everywhere in the torso and dress is not cutting me in halve like trousers do. However wearing heels kills me and I constantly worry that I'll fall.

I guess scarves, layering, loose V neck sweaters ( show off boobs but hide stomach), clothes with pattern is a good idea for disguise:).

purplehonesty · 04/12/2011 20:21

Oh that's great I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was given prawn cocktail for my starter and I didn't eat it cos I remember the midwife saying shellfish only if cooked and I couldn't figure out whether that meant only eat prawns in hot food!! So the very nice waiter brought me some jelly instead!
I went to mamas and papas today and got some maternity trousers and tights and flat knee high boots so I have a few options for work. thinking of wearing dresses with polo neck underneath and boots so that I can avoid trousers and tops as they are making stomach stick out.

PieMistress · 04/12/2011 21:38

There are quite a lot of tunic style dresses around that are great for hiding bumps! I'm too nervous to dig any of my maternity clothes out of the loft until after my 12w scan
