Have read on the internet about being induced but wanted to hear off ladies who had been though it themself. I have Obsteric Cholestasis and been told I may have to be induced this week want to prepare myself for itxx

well, I was induced twice, but at 42 weeks, and not because of any complications, just that I hadn't gone into natural labour - so I suspect it might be a bit of a different experience for you.

Bascically, as far as I can remember, they strap some monitors on you, insert some gel pessaries to get labour started, monitor you some more.. if things don't kick in after a few hours, they may break your waters by inserting a little hook (doesn't hurt as far as I can recall).. labour may or may not start -eventually it should - but it starts much more intensely than it would otherwise, so I think an epidural is the norm at quite an early stage (eg 2cm dilated) - which is bliss! - although that may well slow labour down again.. birth for me both times ended up with a room full of doctors, me lying down on a bed with drips and monitors etc. - for various reasons. Don't think entirely related to the inductions. Still, managed to give birth both times without going down the C-section route, so I was happy!

So if that's not much help - seems like a bit of a distant memory now, and I haven't spoken to others who were induced so don;t know how it compares.

oh, and forgot to say - good luck!! Will be fine - just get the epidural! Grin

I had induction at 37 weeks due to cholestasis. I think they initially put some gel and see if it starts the labor - it did not in my case, then they break your waters - it did not have much of an effect on me either. I was put on a drip and then it was just as naturopath described - room full of doctors, monitors and epidural that I think slowed down the labor. I spent 3 days in hospital before I gave birth. Every hour or so someone was measuring my temps/blood pressure and monitoring baby so by day 3 I was happy to do whatever it takes but for all of it to be over and done with.
I have to say the only moment when I really got upset is when after all of the efforts the labor was still slow and they said unless I push they will have to do caesarian. However I manage to do it by myself, there was no pain due to epidural but I was very tired. So all in all you will be absolutely fine but prepare that it might take sometime, especially if this is your first. May be try not to go for an epidural straight away, wait for the labor to get "established".
I have to say that from certain point you will not be much "present" so just relax and go with the flow.
Good luck!

I was induced at 36+5 weeks with my DS as I also had obstetric cholestasis. At 7pm I was given the pessary, at 11pm they broke my waters and, having only had a few puffs of gas and air, DS was born at 1.50am, so it can all go really very easily!

Good luck, by the way!
