Any advice for dizziness?

As the title says really. I am constantly dizzy even when laying in bed. I can reduce the sicky feelings with marmite on toast but the dizziness never goes. It's sometimes that bad I won't drive and just have to stay very still else I'll fall over.

I have to work which is becoming a nightmare as my job can be pretty active.

Any tips please?

Please? Anyone?

I've fainted this morning due to dizziness, my MS has also stepped up a gear today. I haven't seen a mw yet and I'm currently swiching doctors so I don't know what to do. :(

I always suffer from dizziness during pregnancy, put it down to my blood pressure being quite low, so it happens if I get up too quicky or look down for too long then get up. The fact that you are dizzy when you are sitting is a bit strange though, sounds to me like you should get your ears checked, I had an ear infection few years ago which did similar things, no pain really just kept feeling dizzy then falling flat on my face. Can you just call your new doctors and get an appointment? Walk-in centre?

I've just phoned NHS Direct and they said drink more and see how I go.

I have been drinking quite a bit but I suppose the MS doesn't help the fluid levels.

I have had dizziness this pregnancy (4th baby) for the first time. It was scaring me as I am at home with 3 other kids under 6 a lot of the time or carrying the toddler so I went to my GP. She said it is due to even your veins relaxing in pregnancy and it is taking too long for the blood to get back to my heart from my feet. She told me to go get normal support socks and tights and wear those. It did help and I only had to wear them for around 6 weeks then that stage seemed to pass.

I tend to have low blood pressure in pregnancy so it is worth getting your blood pressure checked out.

Hope it passes soon for you, standing holding the kitchen worktop in case you fall over is scary.

As said, dizziness is usually due to low blood pressure. Nothing you can do, but take it easy - and get up slowly etc. I suffered badly in my second pregnancy. My midwife also recommended iron supplements too which seem to be improving the dizziness third time round! Definitely drink lots of fluids.

MiauMau · 28/11/2011 14:49

How are your iron levels? I heard that low iron level which basically mean anaemia can provoke dizziness and fainting.

AllIWant85 · 28/11/2011 15:50

I don't know how my blood pressure or iron levels are doing. I do have a blood pressure monitor somewhere though so will dig that out and check. Is it advisable to take an iron supplement then or should you be diagnosed with anaemia first?

I have managed to keep down some soup now and am sipping away at fluids. With the extra peeing and the vomitimg I'm considering moving my bed into the bathroom!!

When people suffered from dizziness before were you very aware of your heart rate? I can feel my heart constantly which is not something I'm used to!!

Just wanted to second whoever said to get your ears checked: you could have labyrynthitis, where the balance organ in your ear is infected - you won't have an earache but the room will certainly be spinning... Also, you don't have to wait for a MW appointment, just book to see your GP. Hope you feel better soon :)

MiauMau · 28/11/2011 17:36

How many weeks? Have you had any blood tests yet? I had some done during my first appointment and an anaemia test was part of it.

AllIWant85 · 28/11/2011 18:25

I'm 6+3 so haven't seen a midwife or gp or anyone!

I may try and get a gp appt for tomorrow as I can't afford to be off work long but there's no way I could work in this state!

I know theres so many more who suffer much worse than me but I really do feel awful, I'm normally a get on with it kind of person but this has really knocked me. :(

I've just checked my Sanatogen vitamins and they have 100% of the RDA for iron. Would I need more iron on top of this if I was anaemic?

As my mother in law said when I was battling on earlier in my pregnancy whilst not feeling well - if you weren't pregnant and felt like you do you would go to a doctor so why just because you are pregnant does it mean you need to put up with feeling unwell. I went to the doctor!

I am not qualified but yes you can be anaemic and be taking the vitamins with the RDA. I have been taking the Pregnacare ones and a blood test at 28 weeks found I was low in iron and I am now on an additional iron supplement till after I give birth.

Fresh01 · 28/11/2011 20:48

You can get over the counter iron supplements called Spatone and Floradix, both liquid supplements. I am on Galfer which is a liquid supplement from the doctor. If they want to give you Ferrous tablets watch when taking them as they can constipate very quickly........liquid iron much gentler on the system. Taking with orange juice as it makes your body absorb it better.

AllIWant85 · 28/11/2011 21:55

That's interesting, I didn't realise some people needed more than 100% RDA of iron. I am going to ring the doctors that I'm in the process of registering at in the morning. I'm hoping that they do home visits as I don't fancy being too far from my bathroom right now!

I haven't told many people in RL that I'm pg as I wanted to wait but it's becoming harder and harder. You can only have a stomach bug for so long!
