Unstable lie- Oblique baby at 39 weeks?

So my baby was breech and I was to have a section at 38 weeks at 37 weeks baby turned and was fully engaged confirmed on scan. MW at 38 weeks said baby was unengaged but in good position and asked me to come back today I had my suspitions that the baby is in a funny position this week, it felt almost transverse earlier in the week and very agitated. I've just seen the MW and baby is now oblique, op and she thinks it has limbs in my pelvis.

She was unable to get me a consultant appt as the clinics are all full but she said she will ring me this pm with an appt for clinic hopefully Monday. Does anyone know what this means, is it a section for definite? I could cry am booked for a HB it's baby no 3 i've been having reg braxton hicks on an off and she has told me to go straight in at the first sign of labour whatever the hell that is in case of cord prolapse. I can't believe i'm going to have to wait until Monday to find out what is happening and then potentially end up having a section asap. Has anyone any advice? Happy stories about turning babies?

I think the midwife/hospital will book you in for a scan on Monday to determine the exact position of the baby. They won't just book you in for a c-section unless it's neccessary - particularly if you had planned a home birth etc. I had an unstable/transverse lie with my third baby at 38 weeks and waited 9 days in hospital until baby was head down (confirmed at second scan) and then induced. Had a great, quick birth. Now expecting fourth baby and waiting to see if similar situation! Get your hospital bag ready for monday just in case you do end up staying in. Also get on all fours lots and use a birthing ball if you have one, it really helps. You might find that the baby has moved again by the time you have a scan. Lots of luck.

Thank you, it's all so stressful. Spoke to mw again who said that because of the strike next week there are no appointments and so the plan is to see me Monday in MW clinic and then refer me urgently to labour ward, this seemed sensible at the time but acually i'm not really that happy about it, the last thing i want is a an ECS.
Can i just ask Flossie how come they kept you in hospital? Was it because of the risk? She has sort of freaked me out a bit by explaining that the biggest risk now is a SROM with cord prolapse but then said they're not that to worried about waiting until Monday because i have been overdue previously, surely it doesn't work like that my waters have gone before labour both times previously. The more i have thought about it the more anxious i am, they were going to section me at 38 weeks because of the they're leaving me to 39+4 risk of early labour and previous baby size and now because there aren't any appts

Hello, know it's easy to say but try not to get too anxious - particularly with another two little ones to look after. I had an appointment at 38 weeks with the midwife who told me that she could tell me baby was transverse just by looking at me! I was sent straight to the hospital due to the potential risk of the cord prolapse. I was a bit silly really and didn't ask too many questions but looking back I suppose I could have questioned why I had to wait? It was explained to me about the potential risks about the cord and waters breaking, but both my other babies had been over overdue. I had my own room and was made as comfortable as possible.. just had to sit it out and wait. I actually got quite fed up after a week of not much happening and missing my family, and was let home for the night before going back to be induced. A c-section was never mentioned to be honest. The baby did turn head down by 39 + 4 so it makes me wonder was it necessary to stay in hospital - but at the end of the day, you don't want any risks to you or the baby and that's the main thing. See what happens next week but am sure your baby will turn by then. Try and enjoy the weekend and before you know it you'll have a new family member with you!

Thanks Flossie. My concern is that i'm 30 mins from the hospital and that there is the risk of cord prolapse if my waters broke which is very possible at this stage in my pregnancy, the only reason they aren't seeing me is that there isn't a consultant available to see me.

Totally understand your worry now. Gosh, it's rubbish that the midwife couldn't give you a definite appointment. Take it very easy this weekend and Monday morning you need to be demanding an appointment at the hospital as soon as possible. If your waters do break, ring an ambulance immediately. It happened to a friend of mine with her fourth baby and she had a lovely healthy little girl. Take care and good luck with your new baby.
