Oh dear God - I'm currently sitting on the toilet with constipation and the most difficult poo ever! Blush

Sorry for that image! lol

Is anyone up for a chat to help me pass the time (and pass this poo!)

I had this terrible second trimester. Lactalose sorted me out Grin

I always have a bowl of bran flakes for my breakfast every morning, even before pregnancy, always kept me regular otherwise I can suffer with constipation as well. Hope you get sorted soon

rebecca2011, my sympathies. I feel your pain (if you know what I mean) Blush

I was recommended 2 glasses of warm water a day. It's rank and it's dull but it softens the load cough and has been the only thing that has really helped. Lactulose is also a god send but you will need to increase fluids as well.

lactulose+senna=relief
you will be amazed, I promise!

prune juice helps as well.

Dozeyland · 22/11/2011 21:30

I posted something similar, 14+1, and finding it
Very hard to go too. :( which means bloating and uncomfortable tummy.
May try some lactulose soon,

I desperately need to drink more water throughout the day, and eat
Healthier things (which aid going to the toilet)

What foods help and what foods cause havoc?

VikingLady · 23/11/2011 10:56

porridge with dried fruit in it for breakfast. Half an hour afterwards...

Very boring, though.

Iggly · 23/11/2011 10:59

Drink loads of water and go for a walk!

Dollybird99 · 23/11/2011 15:12

I've been eating 4 - 5 dried prunes, and a few dried apricots, plus drinking lots of mint tea - that seems to be helping me!

When my youngest had really bad constipation i was told by a health visitor to try him with some pear juice. I have used it ever since for myself when i get constipated pregnantor not and it works a treat. You can buy it at Waitrose on the shelf ( not chilled) and it's made by a company called Sunraisya. Goos lick!

tryitandsee · 27/11/2011 16:03

good luck

I hope you've gone by now....lets just say thanks to copious amounts of codeine in hospital on top of a UTI on top of already being a little bunged up, 7 days of not being able to go and being 31wks pg, made me very mental and all I wanted was an enema (but they don't do that to pg women apparently...lord knows why, 3 supposititories failed).
Lactulose...def. ask for lactulose. Took a while to work, but I'm now a much happier bunny (albeit still with UTI by the feel of it).
I'd previously been managing on Sunraisya prune juice, conference pears and many many salads...now I'm on lactulose 3 times a day and it's sooo much more plesant.
Drinking boiled and slightly cooled water is supposed to help - some people add 1tsp of brown sugar too, but generally, yes, up fluids to an uncomfy/weeing so frequently you daren't leave the house level until it's passed, and then reduce to what ever's manageable. That will also help.
Quite a few women find that citrus fruits just don't help at all (both ends, indigestion and bowels), so maybe try cutting back there?
Also, if you're not feeling like a whale, swimming helps...as do warm baths, though the swimming aids things moving more IYSWIM.

Up your fibres, so allbran (oooh, sooo horrid), brown/wholemeal/wholegrain bread, dried fruits and salads...
