So I'm 36 weeks today and off work, yay. I am spending most of my time just lying on the sofa or in bed MN-ing, reading or watching telly! Feel I should be being more productive but also listening to my body and it's screaming out 'rest!' I am trying to have a walk every day even if just to the shops, I don't want to get totally unfit both for labour and recovery.

Oh and a bit of cleaning and nesting every day - think I'm all set, there's soo much to buy and think about though!

What are you up to, ladies on maternity leave and close to the end?

Im 36w 5d, and lolling around waiting to go to work. Im due to start Mat Leave a week on wednesday, and just want to be off now!! The only thing keeping me from throwing the towel in now is the promise of cake on my last shift.
I am getting to the point where every twinge makes me stop and think, and im sure I had a bit of a show last night, so am turning into a freaky knicker checker.

What else have you still got to buy? Its so lovely picking up bits each time I go out, added a few long sleeved vests to the pile this morning, scared incase it's cool in the hospital this time of year (fat chance, apparently they are all set to Boiling)

Do you know wat you are having?

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 22/11/2011 10:28

what

HugosGoatee · 22/11/2011 10:41

A boy Smile

A friend gave me a massive bag of 0-3 months clothing for him, and it's all lovely stuff and has saved me a fortune, but I feel a bit conned out of all the shopping bit! I'm going to get some fleecy sleepsuits as it's getting cold, and a snowsuit just because I think they're the cutest things ever. Apart from that, all set really.

Good luck with final days at work, I finished a week earlier than planned due to knackeredness and they were fine. I still got cake Grin

Its a double edged sword, being gifted stuff, great that you can save a few quid, but then spend weeks walking past stuff you love thinking 'Baby doesn't neeeeeed any more clothes'. We've decided to wait and see what pops out, and have had no hand-me-downs due to people not knowing what we are having. Has been good in a sense that we can buy lots of neutral stuff we like (god bless H&M), but also meant we can't be 'fully prepared'.

Mmmmm, early finish and cake, I could deal with that! My policy states if im off sick any time from now, im automatically on Mat Leave, so that helps. When im at home, im wishing 'come on contractions, I dont want to go in', but when Im there, I feel OK. Just laziness on my part not wanting to actually go in. Next time, im saving annual leave to tag on the beginning!

Next have some lovely fleecy all in ones with a zip up the front and little feet in, sooo sweet. Got a lovely red one with navy stars all over.

Good luck over the coming weeks, and enjoy your well earnt rest Grin

HugosGoatee · 22/11/2011 13:20

Ooh thanks for the tip about the Next suits, heading to town shortly for a wander so will take a look Smile

For me it was the commute that was killing me, being at work was fine. It is nice having time and energy to devote to nesting and cleaning though well sleeping and lazing really

I'm in exactly the same boat, 37+1 today, been off for 3 weeks already and wondering how else to fill the time! Saved up almost all my annual leave so technically not even on mat leave yet which is rather nice. Been doing few little housey bits every day, washed all the newborn clothes (and had a little blub at how cute they are!) today, just got to put up blackout curtains in LO's room and we're all sorted Smile

Don't really feel like going too far from home, find that if i do too much i end up vomiting the next day. Anyone else get really uncomfortable by about 5pm, just feel so full and the heartburn is horrendous?!

Koop · 22/11/2011 19:19

36 weeks today, still at work - 2 weeks left, counting the days. Thankfully my job entails lots of sitting down and tea drinking.
I'd be useless at home, would probably just laze around and eat. When I'm not in work I can squeeze an extra 5 meals into the day. Confused

IssyStark · 22/11/2011 19:33

Still at work at 37w2d. Also doing a p/t MA so I need to get a couple of assignments written in the next two weeks before baby arrives.

This means that none of the baby stuff has been washed yet (it needs it as it has been in storage for over 4 years since no. 1 was little) and the Xmas cards have still to be written, although most of the present shopping has been done.

Am now having a bit of a panic as to whether I'll manage to make it to 38w5d which is when I finish work as nothing is really ready for the new arrival (compared to the well laid plans I had back in the summer!).

NorthernChinchilla · 22/11/2011 20:13

At 36+2 and still a week at work to go. So frantically trying to sort out passing on info to maternity cover (our organisation is only 12 people strong, and so newbie has never done anything like my role before- wibble) during daytime.

Enjoying getting OH to do all lifting/carrying/fetching etc, and reminding him this will go on for a while Grin.

Am starting to plan out the washing and sorting of the baby clothes and stock up the freezer, and still need to actually assemble hospital bag.

But at this exact minute being pummelled mercilessly by baby as he has his evening stretching session [ow-ow-ow-stoppit emoticon]!

madmomma · 22/11/2011 20:16

35 weeks here & so jealous of you ladies who can nap. Am being run ragged by my 13 month old son. Am so desperately tired :( Staggering out to a playgroup or the shops every day, but just want to lie down until this baby comes.

ginaribena · 22/11/2011 20:19

I'm 38+3 and pretty busy with day-to-day with DS1 (primary school) and DS2 (preschool 3 days a week). But now finished my little bit of pt work I am a bit lost. Have just packed hospital bag (been putting this off i know I'm behind), am planning to head to shops for a mooch tomorrow child free (yey!) and just about got all bits sorted for new baby. I may treat myself to pedicure or something as getting bit emotional as dd gets closer!
Am also planning to do xmas cards before baby comes (dd 3rd Dec), but then they will prob be sent after he's born - so bit of conundrum Issystark - are you just going to leave new baby off cards or add name post-hoc?

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 22/11/2011 21:34

Koop we must do the same job, im constantly brewing up at the moment, though part of that is in order to not hovver over my Mat Cover while she works (I want to know she can do everything before I leave)

Commute for me is 15mins in the car, so not bad at all, if I had to bus/train it i'd have stopped earlier. Bags are packed (gone for a small one for me and a small one for the baby) and have a few xmas prezzies. Not sending Xmas cards at work this year, as I wont even be there through December, and it feels wrong to send them in Nov. May send one communal one into the office if I remember Blush

Do any of you know whether pregnant ladies are allowed to go for those fishy food things? My feet are so abandoned at the moment, and the thought of dipping them in the water and being spoiled (by hungry fish Hmm) is rather tempting.

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 22/11/2011 21:41

fishy FOOT

Truffkin · 22/11/2011 21:45

Hi ladies! I'm 40+4 so have had a bit of time to fill as finished work 3 weeks ago Wink

I have washed baby clothes and bedding / blankets / muslins, batch cooked to fill the freezer, organised moving house next month, started packing house up, had some reflexology, had a couple of treats (pedicures mainly), caught up on my Sky+ programmes, chatted to my Mom on the phone (she's 100 miles away), swimming, sorted out wardrobes and ebayed some stuff, done most Christmas shopping including quite a bit online, got the last few baby bits we needed and of course napped as much as possible!

It sounds a lot but have tried to do one thing each day to make sure I've had a reason not to veg all day. My DH has very much enjoyed coming home to a cooked meal and tidy home every evening!!

People say to enjoy these last few days of calm before it all kicks off, but I will admit to wishing the time away now Grin

annekins · 23/11/2011 11:26

I'm 34+5 and have been off since 32 weeks. The first week felt like holiday so I was very lazy (although was technically signed off so resting was what I was supposed to be doing). Last week I was getting a bit bored, but managed to get myself into a bit of a daily routine, like making sure I had enough naps but also getting out of bed and having a shower.

This week I've started on the little chores that need doing like a bit of house work and washing baby's clothes. Also packing hospital bag. It's nice to have something to show for myself but also its good to move around a bit and not lie on the sofa all day! I have to take it easy as my hips will complain loudly if I do too much.

Purdicles · 23/11/2011 13:37

Yeah I have to admit I am pretty bored now with allegedly 4 days to go and on week 3 of MLeave- and I know everyone is right when they say "enjoy it while you can" but there is only so much lying on the sofa I can do - apart from anything else it gets so uncomfortable! I write a list of things I want to achieve each day - really basic things like 'walk the dog' and 'do the whites wash' just so that I feel like I have 'done something'. I've also really enjoyed going through the recipe books which when I was working I never had time to do.

Mostly though I have been planning ahead for when LO is older by knitting a bunch of ridiculous hats I can take photos of him/her wearing and then show their friends when they are at their most embrassable - I'm thinking 13? Mwah ha ha....

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 23/11/2011 17:07

I'm mentally clocking up a list of stuff to do around the house in the two weeks before my due date (a snagging list, if you will), but know I'll spend the first week sitting MNing and napping procrastinating.
