I am 13wks today. I have had severe eating issues in the past which have resulted in me being hospitalised although am much better now. I was a BMI of 19 at conception and have a slight protrusion now on my belly, which definitely swells at nighttime, and my chest has grown somewhat unrecognisable. I have suffered horrendous nausea with food aversions and have struggled with what to eat however have been eating well (as I see it) throughout my pregnancy. I do not know if I have gained weight as haven't been weighed but definitely have not lost. I have been eating,

Breakfast - 1.5 weetabix with lots of semi skim milk
Snack - piece of fruit (sometimes don't have this if I am up late)
Lunch - sandwich with two slices bread, butter, cold meat, tomato and a packet of crisps (skips/squares or french fries)
Snack - cereal bar or 2 oatcakes or strawberry mousse
Dinner - always different but e.g tuna pasta with salad or chicken stirfry with noodles
Snack - 2 slices toast with butter & jam or 4 oatcakes or more weetabix

I drink mostly decaffeinated tea or water. I walk for 1-2hrs each day as we have a labrador puppy. Does this sound enough or do I need more? What does everyone else eat?

Last night I had a huge hunger at 8.30pm as I don't think I had prepared enough pasta, DH nipped to the Chinese and we shared some chinese chips and chicken balls - naughty!!!

As long as you eat a variety of food you should be fine. If you are losing weight then eat a wee bit more. Put a banana on your weetabix in the morning and have 2 instead of 1.5??? Some days you could have a bigger lunch.

Dont watch your weight too much. Just think about the wee baby that's growing inside you and make sure you give him/her lots of good food Smile and the occasional Chinese feast!

Thats way more than I was able to eat in the first weeks, and its very varied - so I'd say youre doing well. :)

Your DP is obviously just looking out for you because of your past, does he know something you're not posting, such as excessive exercise/vomiting back everything youre eating?

Otherwise i'd say youre doing just fine, dont worry about your weight, and concentrate on all the good things youre feeding your baby. :)

I think you are eating excellently-its all healthy and there seems like plenty to me.

I am suffering from horrid nausea and so am eating little bits of crap if I'm honest. I am trying to keep it nutritious but its bloody hard when you cant face anything.

bemybebe · 21/11/2011 13:32

do you take enough proteins? i wonder if morning milk and either tuna pasta or chicken stir fry give you enough. it also depends how healthy you were eating at the start of the pregnancy. i could not eat anything when pg last time and lost 3 kg, but my lo did not suffer a bit.

stripeyZ · 21/11/2011 13:43

I think you are doing great. It's so hard to eat when you feel nauseous all the time. I couldn't eat anywhere near that in the 1st trimester!

I'm still not enjoying food at 21 weeks & only managing one meal a day + snacks. Baby is doing fine though.

kiki22 · 21/11/2011 13:47

your eating great! you might not put on that much weight even if you are eating lots i ate like a horse but didn't put on til about 2 weeks ago then just ballooned!

only pg food your missing is chocolate :)

Your doing very well. I had a simular problem as u, with my first I gained 3 stone and got very down about my weight, I'm very self conscious and have very low self esteem. I only went up to a size 14, which I no now isn't big at all. I'm only 21 and as I said, very self conscious, anyway...I stopped eating, well limited myself to 300 calories a day. (After he was born) anyway, some days when I had a bit more then 300 the next day I'd punish myself.never told anyone but the weight dropped off very fast, I went down to size 6-8 and weighed 7.1/2 stone. What my point is, when I got pregnant with my 2nd, I'm now 18 weeks, I wasn't eating like I shud of been, nausea didn't help. I did increase my intake but not by what I shud of. When I saw a midwife at hospital at 14 weeks idue to complications, I was measuring very small, and my urine showed keratin is it? Where ur body takes its own fat for energy, which was my reality check and have ensure that I've been eating very well, and plenty! I've now gained a stone! Feel very proud n when I get them thoughts bk I just think its for my baby to get healthy and strong. I have never felt so healthy, its hard, to overcome it, but well done and u shud be proud. Ur doing well with the amount ur eating by the sounds of it! Keep it up! :D hugs

Thank you for replying. I am not worried about gaining weight, in fact cannot wait until my bump becomes more noticeable. I do not exercise excessively or vomit or anything to jeopardise the food I am taking in. DH worries alot since I have been unwell and is always checking up on how much I eat and how much I weigh. He has it in his head I should be bigger by now and since we had a miscarriage last year he is scared if I don't grow enough in the correct timeframe something could go wrong again. I have had several scans and the baby measures exact to my dates. My urine is free from ketones and noone else seems concerned. I just panic when he does in case I am doing something wrong but until he mentioned it yesterday I thought I was doing really well, especially since most things I consider eating make my stomach flip with nauseaSad

I eat like a horse normally and was eating less than you at the end if my 1st trimester due to nausea, so you're doing fab. things you can throw into the mix would be snacks of cheese, yoghurt and hot choc made with real milk as I guess your calcium reserves might be a bit low, try to have a few really iron rich meals a week - steak is awesome, my doc friend said you can't beat it for absorbable iron, and good fats - avocado, some oily fish etc.

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 21/11/2011 17:39

I didn't have any aversions in the first trimester, but did find that everything I was eating would come up at the end of the day, so naturally ate less in order to reduce the horrific sickness.

I'd suggest finding a 'fatty' treat that you enjoy and maybe have one a day (in my case it was a Snickers bar, and lately it's been those mini Rice Pudding pots from Ambrosia). Something that will up your calories, but not a huge thing, and also you don't have to feel guilt as it is all going to help provide insulation for the LO.

Other than that, it sounds like a very healthy diet!

Maybe you should show your DH the encouraging responses on this thread to show him other's very positive opinions of your daily food intake?

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 21/11/2011 17:49

The only thing that does concern me is 1-2 hours exercise a day for your puppy!! How old is he? You know the 5 mins per month of age rule??

bemybebe · 21/11/2011 19:11

well spotted peeling! puppies, especially labradors and larger breeds should absolutely not exercised for that long if they are younger than 9 months (6 months at the very least). Hip and shoulder dysplasia is very serious life long illness that can be inherited, but also acquired by excessive exercise when too young.
