I've been reading with interest the thread on teaching recently. I don't teach but do have a pretty physical outdoorsey job and work with children. I am very lucky in as much as I manage my own workload, so as and when I get pg I can scale things down according to how I'm feeling with no major consequences. However, I am worried about my ability to actually do the main components of my job whilst pg. As mat pay at my work is only statutory, I probably can't take extra time at the start of my mat leave, so I wonder what will happen?

Anyone else have anything like this happen?

I work in a physical environment and have obviously had my own PG and a few other staff PG's to deal with.

Your employer will have to carry out a risk assessment and if your job is not possible when pregnant, they either have to find an alternative position for you or suspend you on full pay until mat. leave begins.

I can't imagine that happening as my post is funded to carry out a specific role and I work remotely so so there's no.other roles or anyone to complete my tasks! I am most certainly not trying to get out of anything as I love my job! I know a RA will be carried out and implemented as appropriate, but I don't relish spending 7-9 months not being able to carry out my job!

I dont think anyone wants to get out of working, especially
not those like you who love their job! I was the same.

There's not a great seal you can do, if your job isn't conducive to being pregnant, then you'll not be able to do it. If thayer was the case they could hire someone for maternity cover, either finding you an alternative position within the company or just suspending you.

It's hard to say without knowing what you actually do, but you'll know better if you can actually continue to perform your job when pregnant.
