19 weeks. I feel so ill - I don't know whether I should do something

I posted this thread earlier in the week.

The cramps have largely gone away but I just feel so ill. Nauseous and dizzy and I've had a headache since Tuesday afternoon which has been getting worse. I've been taking paracetamol and today I've taken ibuprofen as well, bu it's not touching it.

My eyes hurt and my neck and shoulders ache (I'm not trying to imply I think I have meningitis or anything, but they do). My throat is dry and scratchy. I feel so hot, but I don't think I actually have a temp.

I threw up after lunch and I'm having trouble drinking enough as it makes me feel sick.

I have a scan on Monday, but I'm not due to see MWs until Wednesday. I just feel like crap and I don't know if there is anything I can or should do.

Hi,

phone NHS direct to have a chat to someone and get symptoms assessed. They will then advise whether you need to contact out of hours GP or phone midwife service for advice.

Don't suffer and wait, phone someone even if its to put your mind at rest and advise what treatment you could take.

Good Luck

Just read your previous thread. Please call your out of hours doctor and ask to be seen. At the very least you need to have your urine checked and they should be able to advise whether you feeling unwell is pregnancy or non-pregnancy related and take it from there.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/11/2011 17:49

You could be dehydrated so try to see the doctor ASAP

ImpYCelyn · 19/11/2011 17:51

I've just spoken to NHS direct who say I need an urgent assessment and should phone the labour ward.

I'm really worried now, but also paranoid that I'll get there and be told off for wasting their time

Don't worry - nothing is a waste of time when you are pregnant. If you are dehydrated it probably means a drip - I had to have it a few times. It will make you feel much better. Good luck.

georgethecat · 19/11/2011 20:14

Never feel bad about wasting peoples time, you have to push forward to get the right healthcare at times like this. You & your baby are very important even if there is nothing serious wrong and your mind is put at rest so you can have a good nights sleep.

Good Luck and let us know how you get on xxx

twojumpingbeans · 19/11/2011 20:41

Hi there

I posted on your thread earlier this week, I'm
sorry to see you are feeling dreadful, nothing worse. I really wouldn't worry about wasting time, as everyone else has said on here, anyone you see would much rather reassure you than leave you worrying yourself worse..

Let us know how you get on, really hope you start to feel better soon.

Zoonose · 19/11/2011 20:50

I haven't read your first thread but have you been screened for a urine infection? More common in pregnancy. A friend had this while pregnant and it made her feel just as you describe. Def get this checked ASAP if you haven't.

firsttimer78 · 19/11/2011 20:54

Bugger time wasting, better that than something being missed. Pregnancy gives you the right to be a hormonal drama queen! Wink Hope it's nothing serious and you feel better soon.

ImpYCelyn · 20/11/2011 14:04

Thanks so much for all your well wishes :)

I phoned the labour ward who told me to go in. I got seen by the MW and by the obs dr.

There's no sign of UTI (shame, as that could have been easily fixed). They think the vomiting is due to having the severe headache for almost a week. As I've been having either migraines or bad headaches weekly since about 5 weeks, they want me to ask my MW on Wednesday to refer me to a consultant clinic. The dr last night said it's been going on for longer than they would expect and if paracetamol and ibuprofen isn't working they need to look for something stronger.

The pain in my abdomen and back they think is from when we moved house 3/4 weeks ago. They think I overstrained several of my ligaments and muscles. They felt along my round ligaments and it was excruciatingly painful, so the dr thinks I've really overdone it. She said no more hoovering, shopping, lifting or carrying. Her concern seemed to be that it's causing cramping/BH/contraction-like things, not just pain, so they don't want to risk me triggering anything early Confused

She didn't put a time limit on it though, so I have no idea how long for. I should have asked, but I'm hoping a couple of weeks rest will sort it, and she didn't mean the next 20 weeks. I should probably check on Wednesday.

Oh, and I have a bad cold on top of all that, causing all the rest of the symptoms and making the others worse.

They also gave me cocodamol and told me to drink as much as I physically can. The cocodamol has helped loads, and I managed to eat a proper lunch, which is so far staying put.

So thing's are looking up :)

Thanks so much everyone :)

That's great news, Imp. It's reassuring to have a Doctor instructing you to take it easy - make sure you listen and enjoy the rest!

georgethecat · 20/11/2011 14:58

Good! sometimes knowing what you are dealing with is half of it. The worry of what it could be just adds to the problem. Glad you are ok xxx

bmm39 · 20/11/2011 17:22

Sorry to hear that you have been so poorly. I hope you feel better soon, take the doctors advice and get plenty rest. xx

ImpYCelyn · 20/11/2011 17:28

Thank you all :)

Yes, being told what it probably is and what to do about it makes me feel better and really relieves the stress.

Fortunately DH was right next to me when she told me to do no hoovering etc :o although he'll probably be far stricter about applying it than I would be otherwise.

I'm on the sofa watching Pride and Prejudice now :)

I'm so glad you were seen!

I hope things start to improve, and your scan on monday is lovely. How lovely, enforced rest though watching DH also not do the hoovering, clening the bathrooms etc would drive me crackers
xx

ImpYCelyn · 20/11/2011 18:30

I know what you mean dreamfeeder :o but he hoovered this morning so hopefully he's starting as he means to go on...

There may have to be a leetle bit of guilt-tripping if not Wink

Hi Imp I hope you're resting and feeling better! Just wanted to check that you're no longer taking the ibuprofen? It's contraindicated in pregnancy. Stick with paracetamol/co codamol.

ImpYCelyn · 20/11/2011 18:43

Thanks Ilovemangoes. But I was told to take the ibuprofen by my doctor, who had it approved by the hospital pharmacologist. It's ok in the second trimester apparently.

But I'm not taking it anymore as it's not strong enough anyway.
