was just browsing the net on ways to induce labour naturally...yes im aware the baby comes when its ready etc etc

I tried everything including castor oil when over due with dd nothing worked for me, although i did go for a 4hour walk sat night and was in labour by 5am Sunday morning (coincidence?)

Anyway everyone kept saying the baby will come when its ready bla bla bla i found myself watching to hurt them lol anyway after having dd i found myself saying that to other people... talk about hypocrite!! anyway so now i am nearly 37weeks preg and am back to wanting so badly to go into labour.

Have found something that probably wont work i thought i would share and see if anyone wants to give it ago i will be trying it next week even tho the chances of it working are very slim....

am copying and pasting...

Have intercourse and let your husband ejaculate without protection. It stimulates contractions. Lay in the bed for 10 minutes after intercourse. Then get up, put the water on hot and stand in the shower for another 10-15 minutes unmoving and just letting the water hit your chest. By the time you get out, you should be contracting really well. If not, your husband can stimulate your nipples and bring them on a little better, but by then they should be strong. Just be careful because they could be hard and STRONG contractions.

I did this and my contractions were a minute apart and I dialated 2 cm's very quickly.

I'd wait to do this til atleast 38 weeks though so you will be completely full term.
Source(s):
Was told to do this by a nurse upon leaving the hospital after a scheduled induction was cancelled and I was broken hearted. The nurse told me to go do this and then when I come back, I will have started to dialate and started labor and they would be able to finish the induction. It worked like a charm. I did the sex and shower at midnight and my son was born at 11:20 the next afternoon.

Sex, sperm and nipple stimulation are all suggested methods of starting things off, but wouldn't recommend the very hot shower.

MissRee · 17/11/2011 09:46

I thought the whole sex/sperm/nipple tweaking only worked if your body was already "ready" for labour? Same as all the old wives tales really...

I swear by acupuncture!

pruney1977 · 17/11/2011 11:40

Report back and let us know if it works.

If this worked, no woman would go into hospital for induction, they'd stay at home and get things going themselves.

The amount of prostaglandin in human semen is nowhere near the concentration that they use in a prostaglandin pessary for induction. If the hot showers worked, pregnant women would be advised not to have a hot or warm shower throughout pregnancy.

secretcodes · 26/11/2011 12:25

Ummm I'm not a big believer in inducing labour think it'll happen when it happens but actually women ARE advised not to have very hot baths and showers during pregnancy!

ShowOfHands · 26/11/2011 12:31

You're advised not to have very hot baths and showers during pregnancy for reasons outside of starting labour.

It increasingly worries me that women are harangued with 'have you tried this' and 'haven't you had it yet' type sentiments, with people propagating myths about how women can 'start it off'. You can't and by implying you can, you introduce this hidden argument that it's something we have control over. And believing we have control over the where and how of labour is what for a lot of women introduces a sense of failure and sadly ptsd and pnd for a minority.

And it's always hard work, either moving around a lot, uncomfortable sex, indigestion-inducing food. And none of it has ever been proven to work. Fair enough do what you want, but I know too many women who doggedly pursue all this stuff and end up demoralised, tired and sick and then have to labour on top of it.

Women should be supported to enjoy and/or endure the end bit of their pregnancy instead of the arbitrary 40wk 'due date' looming and feeling pressurised into forcing the unforceable.

Flisspaps · 26/11/2011 12:35

I should clarify what I meant.

There is advice about it being advisable to avoid hot showers (or baths) but it is because it raises the body temperature and affecting blood pressure. There is also the increased risk of the mother slipping in the shower (but that's not to do with the hot water)

Nothing to do with it inducing labour (which is what the OP is recommending it for here) which is perhaps what I should have said in my last post Grin

So in fact the 'advice' given by the OP could in fact be dangerous, rather than the usual harmless guff people suggest to bring labour on 'naturally'.
