Midwife appointments

Hi all, I'm a bit confused about antenatal appointments. I'm 18 weeks pg, first baby. I had a booking app at 9 weeks and scan at 12. Next scan at 20. However I did not have another midwife appointment. I thought this was standard but today saw a website that says the next appointment is supposed to be at 16 weeks. Have I been ignored/forgotten? Do I need to go mental at them?

Slightly clueless here Confused

normally you have to book your own appointments, but they ought to have told you that and said when to book the next one for.
i would ring the surgery tomorrow and ask

They told me damn all. :/
And they lost some of my notes.

Thank you

I have my first booking appt with midwife tomorrow and I am wondering if it is worth bringing my fiancé along?? Is there much for him at this or is he just going to be bored.

I was told at my booking appt to book my next appt for when I was 14-16 weeks once I'd had my dating scan as they normally adjust your due date there. HTH

bun worth taking fiance along as it's good to see what is involved and you'll need medical history from his side of family - heart conditions, twins that sort of thing...

I was also told at booking in to book an appointment for 15-16 weeks once I had had my dating scan. They should tell you these things. Preferably in words and in writing so you can put up when you need to have appointments on your fridge or something. You can't be expected to guess!
Get on the phone to them and say you need an appointment. Tbh the 16 week one was a quick check up for me, but it gives you a chance to ask questions and often also a chance to hear the heartbeat.

Same here - had my 16 week appt on monday, but had to book it myself. There is a big list inside the pregnancy notes I was given which the midwife just told me to follow. All are with the community midwife, except scans. I was told on Monday to book in for ALL my other appointments up to 36 weeks while I was at the hospital (apart from scans which they issue letters about) as the bookings system is centralised and its impossible to get thru on the phone. Good job I've bought a 2012 diary! I was surprised too - thought appointments would be automatically made for you...

It very much depends on your local set up re booking appointments.

With my current midwife, I always book the next one at the end of the appiontment, directly with her.

With my son, 5 years ago at a different GP surgery but the same PCT, I booked in with the GP's receptionist for the midwife and once made the mistake of not booking the next one as I left which meant I had to go to drop in sessions and/or arrange to go to clinics at the hospital for the remainder of my pregnancy because my usual slot at my midwife's weekly clinic at the GPs was nabbed by someone else.

I had my booking appt today and was told to call back in 3 weeks to book my 16 week appt cos of their rubbish booking system only running 3 weeks in advance - annoying. But otherwise I was told about all my appointments, scans, blood tests etc during the appt so I know what is coming.

I didn't realise I had to choose my hospital there and then though, I feel I should have been warned of this in advance so I could research. I suppose the name of the appt gives it away in retrospect. Blush

bun don't worry - if you change your mind you can always just let them know. Glad it went well though.
