... what actually happens??

I may have to have one for medical reasons not been to see the consultant yet but it's looking very likely, can someone tell me what happens? How do they decide what day, how long does it take, how early do they usually do them?

Hi there, it's usually in the 39th week when the risks of breathing problems for your baby are lowest.

You may or may not get a choice as to the exact day, depending on whether you are private (usually get to pick your day within reason depending on Consultant's availability) or NHS (different boroughs have different practice AFAIK, some will call you a few days before to confirm, others tell you around weeks 32-34 when they have a clearer idea of their operating lists).

If you go in to labour before the date you will get an emergency section straightaway if you have to have a C/S for medical reasons.

You can confirm all this at your appointment, how PG are you? Is it your first?
