Colour Scheme/theme for the nursery

Hi,

So we now have three sets of jungle/zoo themed bedding wih yellows, oranges and green in addition to various animal stickers and wooden cut out shapes such as Lions and zebra's.

As a theme i was thinking the baby's room like a jungle with the top half of the room in Crown Palest Blue and the lower half in crown Mellow green with a watering hole with a heard of elephants heading towards it (wall stickers) and then on the the lions (walls stickers) beneath a great big tree sunning themselve and then the other animals around the room in their various heards.

What do people think about this idea?

The other idea is to paint the walls to look like a circus with all the animals and a big top etc.

Any other ideas welcome. xx

I like the jungle idea - very sweet and seems a bit more restful/conducive to sleep than a circus.

We were so relieved we found out the baby's supposed to sleep in our room for the first 6 months - it gave us the perfect excuse not to do anything so energetic as decorating a nursery Smile

Yummymummyyobe1 · 14/11/2011 13:45

Thanks Tyelperion.

I am hoping baby want's to sleep in it's cute moses basket for the first 6 months but it still hasn't stopped me wanting to paint the nursery especially as DP is going to B&Q for paint for the rest of the house on Wednesday.

I have to wait to go and buy the actual ursery furniture until early next year though as DP knows he will loose me to the nursery for ever Grin also he says the fact that in under 16 weeks I have managed to buy everythng else I need to rest. (the bank account I think he means) Wink

Gosh, that does sound rather exciting.

I have to confess that I figured that firstly they will be in our room for the first few months at least and anyway they are a baby and unlikely to notice or appreciate any hard work put into decorating the nursery in exciting themes and colour schemes. And then when they do get old enough to notice they will almost certainly want something else just to be difficult.

But then I am clearly already a thoughtless mother and I haven't even given birth yet Blush

Yummymummyyobe1 · 14/11/2011 13:58

You are not HidingInTheUndergrowth you will be great mum. I'm just far too orgnised for my own good and want to put it to good use before my life 'becomes run on baby's terms. Smile

I just remembered something I read when I was training to be a nursery nurse (dropped out) about early child development and colours. Also it gives me something to do. Smile whilst shopping for the last of our babythings Wink

We've also gone for a jungle theme, light green walls(couldnt be bothered to re paint) and wall stickers. Its actually looking pretty cool. Let me know if you find any nice curtains! :)

helgaw99 · 14/11/2011 14:06

God now I feel a bit bad- after a few months the baby will be going into what is our spare room. I had hoped to keep it as a spare room ie keep the bed in it and then just move baby in with us when we have guests.

So I hadn't planned to do much to the room except add the cot and all the baby's stuff- certainly no decorating etc until a point when the baby is too old to be in the spare room and needs a room with an identity to play in etc- maybe 18 months- 2!!

Am I a bad person?!

Yummymummyyobe1 · 14/11/2011 14:15

Hi Crosshair will do I am off to Ikea at the weekend I am sure I saw some there.

No helgaw99 you are not a bad person I am just over excitable what with picking up the keys to the new house and then looking at colour charts, it all had a knock on effect.

My DP laughed yesterday when we were at the house as the baby has the third biggest room after ours and the office at over 11ft and the poor guest room is the smallest. WinkI treid to explain that the nursery needs to be next door to our room and that the smallest room on the top floor is not safe with the balcony. Men !!!!

In my case I think the room is more for us then the baby. :o

Cheers, I'll take alook at their website!

MrsHuxtable · 14/11/2011 15:37

I'm mulling over this right now. I'm 27 weeks and we're moving in 3 weeks time so decorating sounds like such a lovely idea. However, I'm the least creative person in the world.

We're having a baby girl and Dh thinks, we should paint the nursery in a really really light yellow. No idea about themes though. Think it'll be a little all over the place as I have found some butterfly wall stickers I love AND giraffe ones. I also have a lovely mobile for over the bed with dragons. Hmm

TheBreadstick · 14/11/2011 15:37

Haha! Our 'nursery' is actually currently DSD's bedroom and OH has said under no circumstances can we redecorate in case it upsets DSD. Confused So, seeing as we're not finding out the sex of the baby, I really hope the theme 'Pink Princess' suits our imminent arrival!

He won't even give me a token 'neutral' on one wall! I think my nesting urges will need to be satisfied in other ways ... either that or some clandestine decorating needs to take place! Smile

MadMonkeys · 14/11/2011 16:36

Well that sounds lovely. We didn't bother redecorating actually. DD stayed in our room for 6 months then went into her own room. At 22 months she now peels the wallpaper off her bedroom walls in the dark when we've put her to bed... But your idea does sound lovely!

Yummymummyyobe1 · 14/11/2011 17:25

Thanks lasies there sounds some lovely ideas on here for nursery's.

Crosshair I am sure the baby will have no idea this end too. I have to decorate it though it is like a coming of age thing.

TheBreadstick I am sure clandestine decorating is the way forward. I personally clandestine shop hence all the baby items everywhere and another 24 weeks to go.

MadMonkeys I had not thought of that although I am hoping that peel off stickers will be our saviour.

I inherited a nursery with a Laura Ashley 'elephants' border and lampshade, and I got some matching curtains and fabric off Ebay. I painted below the border Farrow and Ball Arsenic Green and above just a light cream colour. Furniture is white. It really is a lovely room and could have pink bedding with it for a pinkified girl, and green, yellow or white for a boy.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 14/11/2011 17:37

That sounds lovely BoffinMum.

Yummy Sounds lovely. I know giraffes are more 'Sahara desert' than 'jungle', but I definitely think they should feature in your theme Smile

(not that I'm obsessed with giraffes or anything.... Hmm )

HugosGoatee · 14/11/2011 18:17

Jungle / circus must be the 'in' theme - we're doing it too!

We've gone for pale yellow walls - Dulux Wild Primrose is perfect. We have the Little Circus bedding stuff from Mothercare, and have ordered loads of jungle animal wall stickers from an EBay seller.

We're expecting a boy but didn't want to do blue, partly because of the gender stereotyping, partly because I think blue can be quite cold for a bedroom and because DH is an Arsenal fan so has banned blue we would have done the same theme for a girl.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 14/11/2011 18:39

Missgiraffe1 there are quite a few giraffes in there. I am also going to look for monkey's as I love monkeys so much.

HugosGoatee it must be the in thing and I there I was thinking I was being original our bedding is all MotherCare also perhaps that i why there are so many jungle parents out there.

Sounds a nice idea.
For those ladies who want less themed or to not make it typically boy/girl, I love the room tours on oh dee doh. Beautiful rooms, not your typical baby pink/ blue.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 14/11/2011 18:51

Thanks Gingerlemontea I might also have to take a look at the site though.

Hiya! the zoo idea sounds lovely!
Ive done our nursery a shabby chick theme with bunting, bedding, cushions etc all in Cath Kidston rosali rose fabrics its gorgeous! Also got loads from ebay, even some fab hand made toys!
I got some wall stickers of cherry blossom tree's and it looks like its windy by the window and the tree has blown over, cherry blossom everywhere!
Its more for me than baby, haha!
It gave me something to focus on for a while as Ive been off work ages..
All I need now is baby to hurry on out and show herself! 40+2 today..

Yummymummyyobe1 · 16/11/2011 16:18
