Im 29 weeks pg with my 2nd, i've been having pains for a few weeks but tonight they seem extra painful, the pain is realy low down and it feels like i'm going to burst, my bump is realy hard and it feels like the baby is pushing down. I did'nt have pains like this the first time but dd's head was engaged at 30 weeks. is this just braxton hicksa? Could it be that the babys head is engaged and pushing down already?

my braxton hicks were really strong both times. In fact with my second they even showed up very clearly and very regularly on the monitor (at 42 weeks btw)...even though I was definatly not in labour.

i would still check with midwife/gp/hospital to be sure though.

Pains have eazed off a bit now but i have a dull ache i my back, think i will go and lie down and if the pains get worse i will phone the hospital, maybe i have just over done it today.

preterm labour can start off with tightenings/ braxton hicks it is best to be seen soon as to check that these contractions are not changing your cervix- if they are lots can be done at 29 weeks if caught early enough and if not then you will have peace of mind that everythings going ok.

don't mean to freak you out as im sure everythings perfectly fine, i just think its always best to be safe than sorry and a few extra hours in antenatal or maternity is worth it

Maybe, or could be a water infection. Get yourself checked out asap just to be sure.

Phoned maternity this morning, spoke to a midwfe and was told it was normal to have braxton hicks as long as they dont last for too long and they are not too painful, was told to phone back if they get worse or if i have any water loss. I hav'nt had any more pain today just a dull ache in my back and stomache. I think if i have any more like last night i will have to get it checked out just to put my mind at rest.

QuenVic, yes it could be a water infection as i do get them, i think i will ask to be tested on friday when i see my midwife.

Can you turn over in bed? Get in and out of the bath? Open your legs any distance without pain?

Marne · 03/01/2006 15:55

Finding turning in bed hard but i wouldnt say its realy painful, finding it hard to get in and out the bath but my bump is getting heavy.

If you possibly have a water infection you ought to get seen to earlier. I gather they have more consequences when you are pg than when not.

Im sure someone will put me/you right on that though im im wrong

friend sent me these symptons of when you should go in to hosp the other day as i was complaining of braxtion hicks

? Abdominal pain, menstrual-like cramping, or more than four contractions in an hour (even if they don't hurt).

? Any vaginal bleeding or spotting.

? An increase in vaginal discharge or a change in the type of discharge ? if it becomes watery, mucousy, or bloody (even if it's only pink or blood-tinged).

? Increased pelvic pressure (a feeling that your baby's pushing down).

? Low back pain, especially if it's a new problem for you.

midwifes can fob you off over the phone as they do not want everyone come in when they have a twinge-BUT i think as you say you have 2 of these symptoms i think you should just go in.
please dont be fobbed off.
