I've seen so many threads recently about impatience, and it seems that those people go on to have their babies quite soon afterwards. So, as curries, pineapple, raspberry leaf, etc have all failed me, I thought I'd invent my own old wives' tale.
I'm 41 weeks with my first baby today, and totally fed up. I can't sleep (probably because I somehow am convinced labour will start at night), and have been off work for 3 weeks now. Absolutely no signs, head not even in pelvis yet, and will kill the next person who says "he'll come when he's ready"/"you made such a good home in there"!

Please say I'm not the only one going slowly mad?!

(Right, as I have posted in this thread I fully expect to give birth within the next 24 hours!)

Hiya!
I feel your pain, im so fed up, its horrendous isnt it!
Its my due date today but the midwife kind of made me this way because since my 36 week appointment shes been telling me ''im sure you wont see me again because this baby is ready to be born" - annoying :O
I have nothing to do either except wait! my hubby is off work now too because he works abroad so it really would be better if baby came soon so we would have more time to enjoy her together.. arghhhh!!
I know if anyone else says ''any news? any twinges?'' ill lose it with them :S

I had a sweep yday and was fully engaged, cervix thin and 1 cm dilated so have abit of hope that it maybe soon!!have u had a sweep?

On a positive, its likely this time next week we will be holding our babies (its my first too - super exciting :) )

Hi, How annoying to be told that by your midwife. Mine's been brutally realistic about how unready I am, but does like to add how big my baby is going to be! I had a sweep yesterday too, but my cervix was v.posterior and thick. It was beginning to soften, but was 100% closed. Yours sounds much more promising.

My DH is off at moment too, but has to go back soon. Not as bad a having to go abroad though, that must be a nightmare. Doesn't it feel like your wasting time (especially as I'm being such an unpleasant cow to him!)

I'm trying to be rational, and think of Thurs as my date to aim for, but I just can't stop hoping that it will be sooner, and looking out for every little sign. How hard can 4 days and 5 nights be?!

Oh I could have written your post! I know all about it im being mean to the DH too! and just about everyone that crosses my path!
Positive thinking eh we will get there soon!:)

Vvvv annoying isn't it! Try though having approx 4wks of stop-start painful contractions, a show and many other "signs" only to still be waiting to have baby at due date! This is my 4th pregnancy and I can tell you, this long drawn out, teasing latent labour phase is far worse when it goes on so long. (Would much rather be in your shoes, as I was with my first and induced at 10 days late!)
Try to get as much rest as possible now before baby comes is my advice and try to keep busy to take your mind off it all. Maybe have a bit of pampering and go get hair and/or nails done? Good luck when things do happen! Won't be long now! :)

I am 40+1. I've walked at least three miles every day this week and haven't even noticed Braxton Hicks, or anything I can even pretend is a symptom of impending labour.

I appreciate the lack of symptoms are probably lucky by most accounts but I'm already starting to convince myself there is something wrong with me.

I am planning something nice to do every day next week in the hope that Murphy's Law kicks in and my baby comes.

Franglomum · 13/11/2011 21:47

Hi there. I am 39 weeks on Wednesday so a week or so behind you front runners. Still can't help hoping that things will happen one day soon but as my other two were both over due then I doubt there is much hope that this one will make an early appearance!!! I have gestational diabetes so all I can dream of is holding my baby in my arms and eating a giant twix at the same time - that image will get me through labour I think!
I keep on thinking of jobs around the house to do and that seems to make time pass quite quickly. Just decided that we will have enough time to re-decorate the kitchen before she comes (!!) so I am concentrating on that now and putting all my energy towards nagging hubby to get on with the painting!
We live in France and run a gite complex together so we spend most of our time together so I guess I am lucky in that he won't be rushing back to work anytime soon!
I just hope having a baby in France is not too different to the uk!!! Certainly had good care up to now so lets see.
Lets hope this thread gets some of us moving!!

Well, I've not gone into labour yet! New drama is that bp is up, so get to spend the afternoon in hospital being monitored - fun! I was all set for a home birth a couple of weeks ago, but now it looks like I'm going to be strapped into a bed. At least being overdue means I couldn't care less how he gets here now, as long as it's soon!

Franglomum - DIY been done to death here. DH and I both teach, so had house as our summer hol project. All things to do now involve gloss paints, etc that I'm too paranoid to do around bump.

Crazyhead - I know what you mean about thinking you're odd. I'm glad I'm not suffering/in pain, but it honestly feels like this baby will never come out of his own accord. I've had BH once for 3 hours over a week ago, and that's it.

Fingers crossed it's not horridly busy at hospital today (I hate hospitals!)
