Phobic about pregnancy

I'm pregnant with my second, and feeling even more phobic about it than 1st time. I had a normal pregnancy and natural home water birth with a healthy baby, so no trauma. I did everything possible to cope (CBT, hypnobirth, hypnotherapy, NCT, yoga, a doula) but still hated the whole process. 6 weeks in, it's the same - only this time, I can't see a solution. I've never met anyone who gets it...am I the only one?

Same here!! I'm terrified of giving birth again even though my DS literally flew out within 10mins. No pain relief, there wasn't any time. DS is 8 now so it's been a good few years since I was last pregnant. I was young and supple then, I'm so paranoid something is going to go wrong this time....must be the old age.
I'm 9 weeks Grin

Thank you for replying.

I know insomnia is normal in early pregnancy, but I haven't been able to sleep for weeks - it's when all my irrational feelings churn round my head, hence last night's post.

Have you had your midwife booking in appt yet, and did you tell them? I will, but I'm not convinced he/she (had male midwife last time) will understand my level of fear. I'm hoping there's a magic cure out there!

Xx

I'm absolutely terrified Blush . I've never liked the idea of pregnancy and it's pretty much my worst nightmare. I've no idea what to expect.

Hi

I had my booking appointment on Friday and glad to say my midwife this time is lovely!

I'm getting a belly now, being so skinny pregnancy shows pretty early on me. The sore swollen boobs are annoying and I barely sleep at night as I can't get comfortable!!! Argggh!
I really dislike being pregnant! What happened to the storks bringing the babies? Grin

Ah sounds rubbish.
I hate being pregnant. I haven't slept properly for a month now and my sickness, which I hoped to get away with, has arrived. Sick 15-30 times a day, and last time it lasted til 25 weeks so I'm facing this 'til mid February!
I had my booking in appointment this week, but the midwife couldn't offer anything more useful than lavender oil on pillow and eating ginger.
Any tips gratefully received.
Just got to think if this as a means to an end - roll on July!
Xx

And here's me feeling terribly guilty of hating being pregnant, with my 2nd now, 19 weeks pregnant. I haven't actually been sick but I am suffering from severe nausea, and the pains are unreal! Constantly hurting day and night, the not sleeping went, and come bk again. And the tiredness argh! I'm terrible a right moaner. I just think being pregnant is really quite hard. I envy them who love it and blossom! Xx

I feel like this (40 weeks tomo) - I think it's because you know what can happen and also what is at stake (ie you now have a child) whereas with the first, while the fear was there, the idea if having a child was actually quite surreal.

I've actually done less this pregnancy than I did last time - so far it's been ok. Ask me again once labour is done though Grin

ExquisiteChristmasCake · 01/12/2011 20:28

It's my due date and I have an active phobia of birth, controlled atm but has been weeks and weeks of hysteria.

My last labour was a HB, pain free-ish and rather quick.

I've built our new house during this pregnancy and was on my back with hypermesis for the first 20 weeks, which put labour into perspective let me tell you that!

Same here to the point I got signed off work this week with pregnancy related anxiety Sad it's bloody awful!

It started with needle phobia but has since just blown up. I cry all the time thinking about it, me heart races , i struggle to breathe. I've had panic attacks In the run up to appointments in hospital or when needles involved.

I couldn't have a home birth at all. Not even on my radar

MiauMau · 02/12/2011 10:57

I find it surprising that someone who's phobic would opt for a home birth, wouldn't you prefer to be completely out of it?
Oddly the birth part doesn't scare me, aaah sweet ignorance! But the afterwards makes me panic a bit. The whole taking the baby home, how this tiny thing totally relies on you and being so far away from my family... I miss my mum Confused

kiki22 · 02/12/2011 23:08

I had a real panic when i first found out and hated being pregnant was freaked out for the birth but my gran sat me down n asked if i wanted to get rid of the baby i said no way so she said i need to stop vbeing silly and get on with it, theres worse things in the world people have babys everyday and it's gotta come out at some point so whats the point in worrying... Bit harsh but it worked kinda made me accept that i'm gonna be pregnant i'm gonna need to give birth so i may as well just get on with it.

btw still hate being pregnant tho.

MiauMau · 03/12/2011 00:03

I don't exactly hate it, I just don't get people that get pregnant over and over again.

kiki22 · 03/12/2011 12:36

my sister had the kind of pregnancy that would make you want to do it again, she got no symptoms except heartburn but was the kind that 2 rennies sorted out, she was out on a night out the week before her daughter was born til 2am, i think if you have a pg like that you might wanna keep going.

MiauMau · 03/12/2011 13:08

my sister's was blessed too up to a certain point. The last month made her a bit paranoid and the birth was traumatizing.
