Labour: I've forgotten what to do!

32 wks pg with DC2,and in my area you get no antenatal classes with 2nd babies. Thing is, I've forgotten all the stuff about what you do in labour. Did NCT classes the first time, and whilst I remember some things about positions, I am not sure we really did anything about relaxation or breathing, or if we did I can't remember. Everything i read this time around refers to the "techniques you learn in antenatal" but I don't know what they are talking about. I also didn't get to put into practice anything for 2nd stage due to bad birth experience first time around.

Can someone enlighten me, or recommend a good book or website? I am planning for a homebirth, but slightly worried that I am not really prepared enough.

I can't recommend this book enough: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0091922143/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=1741750970&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0EM5934HNG9H6GF409EA

Also, get a TENS machine.

Are you sat on your birthing ball?

I was just about to recommend that book too! here's a working link Smile.

Read it before DD2's birth - made loads of sense since I knew what was coming, having giving birth to DD1. Lots and lots of pain management ideas. Actually loads ideas more than in the NCT classes I did with DD1. I used several ideas for DD2's birth and although DD1's birth was a normal delivery, I felt more in control and that I dealt better with the pain for DD2.

Title: Birth Skills. Author: JuJu Sundin.

I also planned a homebirth (and the only reason DD2 wasn't was because of midwife shortages and them insisting I go into hospital - DD2 born an hour after arriving, so 90% of the labour was at home). I think this book is ideal preparation for a homebirth. And unlike some other books it does't pretend labour is the most amazing, spiritual experience where you should just trust your body etc - this book is very clear that it (almost always) blimming hurts, but that there is a lot you can do to help yourself. It's also very positive about any interventions which you might end up having, which I felt was very realistic.
