Transverse / Breech baby since 12 weeks now 33

Hi, as the title says my baby is Transverse or oblique breech since at least the 12 week scan. I am almost 33 weeks and seeing a consultant at 36 for a scan to confirm position and discuss the options.

Is it normal for the baby not to have changed position at all and does this mean its unlikely they will get into the correct position now?

I know everyone says the baby has still time to move but I haven't heard of a baby being in this position from day one!

Has anyone had any experience or advise on this please.

I think if you saw the baby breech in the twelve week scan that doesn't mean you've been breech since then. Babies move around loads and do full blown somersaults- as I'm sure you've felt!- so it is probably just coincidence that you saw the baby breech at twelve weeks and now it has ended up being breech. Also the baby doesn't engage until later for a first pregnancy and much later still for subsequent ones (sorry don't remember when but I'm pretty sure it's later than 33w for both so there is still a chance it will move itself. But your consultant will tell u more about your options. Hope it turns for you!!

DS was obstinately transverse from the start. He eventually shifted around 37 weeks just when the MW was making noises about ECVs and CSecs. He did oscillate between head up near my ribs and down by my hipbone but he seemed to like the little cavity he'd carved out for himself.

I spent a lot of time on my hands and knees, I rubbed clockwise, I did stretches to open up my hips and eventually he went to breech and then somersaulted to ceph.

Be prepared - when he moved it hurt.

Is baby trying to move?

Thank you, yes the babys head is and has always been on my top right but the bum sometimes varies between opposite the head and an inch or 2 below that, so not much movement at all really. The baby does kick and punch a lot especially strong kicks right down below and I do get a rocking motion so I think it does try to move but to no avail!

Have you tried any optimal foetal positioning? I was v into it with my first and will be with this one too (am only 20 weeks though so not relevant for quite a while!). Check out the spinning babies website for some tips.

Birthing balls help, as they encourage open hips. Swimming (if you can manage it), anythign there you can rest leaning forward (so site backwards arms/shoulders on the back rest, on a chair, with chusions for comfort).
Currently 29+6 and am starting to do these and LOs transverse of full breech. Want to get her used to being on her head again (she was until about 23wks).
Babies can still turn very late. My SIL was looking good until 37wks then baby turned full breech...and a c-section was booked!

I was booked for an ecv this week (37 weeks) scan yesterday shows baby has turned head down. I did lots of hands and knees time in the last 2 weeks, it was transverse first then breech from 33 weeks, try not to worry.

also acupuncture it is supposed to have something like a 90% success rate.

Ruddy hell, there were a lot of typos in my last post, but you get the gist. Hollowing out a bump shape in a beanbag and lying on that might help?

starjules · 09/11/2011 17:06

Thank you, yes I've been trying the balls, spinning etc. I was trying to find out really if anyone else had a baby that have not moved at all until late as most people I hear of tend to move around at lease a bit. I guess mine is just lazy!

Mine didn't move at all till last week jules was in the exact same position when rhey started checking position and tbh it doesn't feel the happiest now its head down, very very wriggly but it is engaged so hopefully stuck . I've been stressing and was sure when it was still breech that at 36 weeks that it was going nowhere. Apparently its more common in subsequent pregnancies because of what the MW called a baggy uterus. My ds was transverse until about 35 weeks and then moved too.

Sorry starjules looks like my earlier post was completely unhelpful, I had no idea this was possible it just doesn't make sense with so much room in there in the early stages so I've learnt something new! I guess at least I bumped your thread Grin

My first two were both transverse until 36 weeks and 37 weeks. First one turned while swimming (had done all sorts of sticking my bum in the air activities) and the second turned while driving to an ante-natal appointment. Eye-wateringly painful the second time, but from what I gather, it's pretty common for babies to turn of their own accord at that sort of stage (or later!)

I don't know about not moving from 12 weeks, but my second certainly hadn't shifted position for quite a long time (many weeks) before he finally did his big somersault.
