Why don't I feel my babies kicks as much as before?

I'm worried. I feel the baby moving but I know, it's the kicks that are important, not movements. While I could feel longish stretches of intense kicks before, it's now (yesterday and today) only been the occasional small kick. I'm lying on my left side and had a whole can of Irn Bru which resulted in DH feeling "3 kicks in a short time". I didn't feel them.

DH thinks the baby has moved in a different position where I can't feel the kicks as intensly as before. Could this be an explanation? I'm almost 27 weeks btw.

Please call your midwife and go and get checked out.

Your dh is probably right at 27 weeks your baby will have lots of room and may have just turned round but the hospital will not mind at all doing a trace on you to make sure everything is okay.

Probably just LO has changed positoins, but any worries about movements, call your MW.

hermionestranger · 08/11/2011 11:29

Go and get checked out.

Your baby probably has moved positions, but getting checked out will put your mind at rest and the hospital won't mind at all.

Go on, do it, now!

I think your DH is probably right.

With my middle DS I felt almost no movement at all in later pregnancy. I think once he got bigger my poor baby was squashed in such an uncomfortable position he couldn't really move.

If you are really worried you must seek professional reassurance but in my humble, non-professional opinion, you should stop worrying. And lay off the Irn Bru - it's horrid. Smile

If you have any doubt about whether everything is OK, then please get checked out. Without wishing to scare you, this thread gives a lot of good reasons as to why you should listen to your worries sometimes - getting checked out won't do any harm if you are concerned.

Def. ring MW. LO should still have plenty of wiggle room up until 32-36 weeks (depending on your size etc). They won't even condiser turnung breeches before 34wks if all is 'normal' for this very reason.
Any reduction in movement should be reported and then they can decide to see you or not.
Go with your gut, you're not happy, ring them.

As far as I know, they make the difference between movements and kicks because a dead baby will still move as it's swimming in water and a poorly baby will still wriggle or have hickups but might not have the energy to actually kick.

I'm probably paranoid. We've had a horrible few weeks with loads of stuff happening including my beloved cat dying so I'm super anxious and just waiting for the next disaster.

I have decided to pack a couple of boxes (we're moving as well) and if I haven't felt anything that reassures me after that, I will go in to get checked out.

I hardly get kicks anymore but lots of movements, mw said it was fine. Shock

worldgonecrazy · 08/11/2011 12:33

Any change in movement, go and get it checked out. The midwives and HCPs do not mind worried mums coming in. As one told me, we'd rather a thousand women came in who were worrying about nothing, than miss the one where there is a problem.

Sorry, I didn't mean to terrify anyone. It's just what I was told. It seems to be very much like different midwives or care trusts have different opinions. Makes it all the more confusing though, doesn't it?! Confused

I am actually feeling more now, but again it's not as strong as usual. It's more towards the inside. Def feels like maybe the baby has turned. I have to phone up the midwife anyway to make my next appointment so will let them decide if I should go in or not.

This might be useful. It talks about movements not just being kicks:

Thanks for the link, I'm more about the flips and turns. Was having abit of a panic. :)
