Oh dear, another scare story for pregnant women. I really don't think a study of 40 women is indicative of very much.

Quite a few research studies set out to prove the answer they want, ie to satisfy the sponsor.

Sorry, it's just another stick with which to beat women

I agree with locket. I don't see that cutting out something that could harm my child as an awful thing to have to do. Yeah, I missed brie but I didn't feel oppressed by it and in cutting it out, I didn't have to justify anything. I find the number of threads on here devoted to pregnant women justifying their drinking a bit depressing sometimes

starlover · 31/12/2005 19:52

yeah yeah lockets... stop kidding yourself. we all know you're an alco! I bet you're supping a nice cold shandy right now!!!

One or two glasses per week though??

Come on, get a grip.

Pregnant women these days seem to be on fairly limited diet which will then be deemed unhealthy for the baby in years to come (ask your own mums)

hunkermunker · 31/12/2005 20:00

How is the diet of a pregnant woman limited?! You can eat almost anything!

starlover · 31/12/2005 20:01

yes, well with 3 kids under 3 you will most likely be on the booze constantly! lol

Enid · 31/12/2005 20:01

am drinking a glass of wine right now

although I did drink a glass of wine three or four times a week when pg with dd1 and 2 and they dont have adhd

beansprout · 31/12/2005 20:07

For me, it was a bit like the "whatever you do, don't think about pink elephants!!" thing. The minute I was told I couldn't eat brie, I bloody wanted it (well, once I was over my morning sickness). There is so much food out there. If knocking half a dozen things off the menu means someone feels they are limited, it could just be the case that they were eating a somewhat limited diet in the first place!!

hunkermunker · 31/12/2005 20:10

I can't believe anyone seriously believes that the diet of a pregnant woman is limited enough to cause problems with the baby, even one who follows all of the recommendations and guidelines to the letter!

Unpastuerised cheese

Pate - all forms

Peanuts

Oily fish

Caffeine - includes tea, coffee, chocolate

Alcohol

Cold meats - some say this

Partially cooked eggs - eg homemade mayo

Liver

Enid · 31/12/2005 20:12

I didnt drink for the first 16 weeks though [hopeful emoticon]

How does this limit you enough to be bad for the baby?

You can still eat a full range of fruit and veg, meat, fish, pulses, pasta, bread, cereal, pasteurised cheese, rice, etc, etc.

More people have problems because they eat processed shite than because they don't eat a bit of Brie or some liver.

OP posts:
Enid · 31/12/2005 20:16

aha!

i don't eat processed shite

maybe this lets me off hook [doubly hopeful emoticon in manner of Lassie wanting out of her pen]

beansprout · 31/12/2005 20:16

I'm a tee-total veggie so I hardly eat any of the stuff on that list anyway. I know I'm just one example but I eat a huge range of stuff and am hardly ever ill. Same goes for ds. He has had one cold in his 14 months. Can hardly be argued that I am risking his health?!!
