'Period Pains'....34 weeks

As title says, Im 34 weeks and 2 days and for the last 4 days have had near enough constant period type cramps. Last saw MW on Tuesday, who said baby healthy and happy and head down, and I do think it has engaged somewhat in the last couple of days as I now feel as though the front of my pelivs is being pushed out (sorry if tmi).

Is it OK that I am feeling crampy, is it stretching, or weight of baby now further down, or should I be preparing for other signs coming? No show, or anything, but am on 'alert' for something kicking off...maybe unecessarily Grin

The thought of potentially another 8 weeks of this?!

Please go and get yourself checked out. I felt my DS turn and engage and had cramps which turned out to be contractions at 33 weeks. I was 3cm dilated when I got to hospital, 48 hours after it started.

I don't want to scare you, could be nothing, but it is worth going in just in case. They won't think you're silly.

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, but I'd be ringing MW just to check that they're ok with the pain. SIL's recently gone overdue and baby's head baby's head caused pains like this (for 9 days). Best ring to be sure though, they may want to do a urine dip or have a prod, or just check for 'other' signs of preterm labour. I've recently had to do these checks thanks to an IBS attack...which I knew it was...but they wanted to be sure...at 29wks.
You're best off feeling like a bit of a spanner for ringing and getting the all clear than worrying/there actually being something wrong that they could have done something about earlier.
I'm sure it's nothing to be concerned about, but best ring for an opinion.

Thanks for the replies. Do I just ring the Midwife Station at the local hospital then, this sort of time in the evening, or should I wait till tomorrow and call the MW i've been seeing at the Doctors?

Its so confusing

Hi

I went into labour at 34 weeks with period pains. Baby was born at 35 weeks happy and healthy x

Oeisha · 06/11/2011 21:56

Ring the hospital. Triage or whatever number they've given you (MW station by the sounds of it). if nowt else you'll sleep better having talked to them.

lisad123 · 06/11/2011 21:57

I would call this evening and get checked

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 06/11/2011 22:00

Oh my word, I didn't even think the response woul be that I may be close to labour. Stomach is rock hard too, but I can still feel LO moving around, so dont know if that is affecting it?

No, I didn't believe it was either which is why it took me 2 days to get myself to hospital. DS moved normally throughout. Phone the MW station at the hospital now and go in as and when they advise you to.

Oeisha · 06/11/2011 22:05

Is that what the MWs have said?
LO could still be trying to engage in a comfy way at any point at a guess!

I'm 33+4 and I had some period pains a couple of days ago, not all day, just for a little while on each day but have had nothing in last couple of days. I read that braxton hicks can sometimes feel like that so I put it down to that. Baby is still moving in its normal pattern so I'm not too concerned but might be if it was continuous like yours although am sure all will be fine. Keep us posted.

Ilanthe · 06/11/2011 22:05

I had a good outcome as well, btw so don't let that worry you either. They're nearly cooked at 34 weeks.

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 06/11/2011 22:14

Thanks for the advice. I think I will call in the morning. My car is in use overnight (DDad works nights and his is broken), so I think if I call tonight, they may advise popping up to be checked, which I dont think Ill be able to do without a car. Obv. if it was developing I would get a cab.

Ill call in the morning, knowing my car is avaliable should they suggest I pop in.

Glad to hear they're more than part-baked if they do arrive at 34 weeks Grin

Will update on changes!

Hi Im 33 weeks and for past 2 weeks I have had period type pains and been midwife, doctor, asked at hospital all said its normal and not bothered to investigate.

Today didnt feel baby move much so went to hospital and had the monitering done.

Had a urine test told me Im in ketosis and have urine infection and the midwife there think thats why I had period type pains low down.

Have been told by midwife so many times its normal to have them but if really hurting you get it checked out.

banana87 · 06/11/2011 22:39

Are they regular? If not, they are just Braxton hicks. If they are regular and getting stronger than they are contractions. It's quite common to get Braxton hicks at this stage and doesn't mean anything is imminent necessarily. If you've had them for 4 days and they haven't gotten worse or regular (you would know!) then I wouldn't personally bother with the MW as they are only concerned if:
They are regular
They are becoming increasingly painful
Baby's movements have decreased

I'm not of the opinion of the others that you need to rush and get checked...unless of course any of those 3 things or anything else worrying (bleeding, waters going, etc) are happening too.
