Hey ladies bit of a long thread an I'm on my phone so appologise in advance for spelling mistakes.

I am 30 weeks today with identical twins :) I already have 3 children youngest being 10 months

Thursday morning I had what I think is a small leak, I have already had a a few shows. So I went to the hospital where they checked by speculum but it showed no "pooling" of water and cervix was shut. After listening to babies I was sent home and told to wear a pad and bring in next morning!!

So Friday morning off I went up to day assessment where the midwife agreed pad was very damp and basically a good indication that I was indeed tricking water.
Another speculum, no water pooling found again, had a scan fluid seamed normal. I was told to wear a pad whilst walking about and again midwife and doctor agreed it was very wet!

Consultant comes in does ANOTHER speculum again no waters pooling to be found but again more damp pads!

They agreed from how damp my pads were that my back waters were trickling! And that I was now to stay in and be observed till babies were born!

Unfortunately there was Bo room at the hospital intensive care for babies if they were to be born so I was sent 1 hour and half to another hospital that had room.

Got there late about 11.30pm and when I woke up about 8am the doctors said I could go home my waters hadn't gone ( they hadn't checked anything)
So I it shipped home with antibiotics.

This morning I wake up not feeling very well and again very damp so I call for advice, told to come up again so I went. Again another speculum no water pooling BUT I have a infection showing in my blood?!
They have just sent me home and said if anymore trickling etc come back but I was when I was there. I'm sooooo worried this is what happens with my last baby the exact same thing, they didn't believe me water were leaking and left me I got infection (again exact same thing) and my baby was very poorly ad had to stay in intensive care.

I'm so worried I have kicked up such a fuss and near enough refused to go home but still no one believes me.

Any advice

I ve no experience tbh but wanted to say how rubbish that sounds to be fobbed off like that.

All I can say is trust your instincts, kick up a fuss, keep reminding them of your previous history I cant understand why given the evidence plus the fact your expecting twins AND now have an infection they havent kept you in?!?

I would just turn up to the day care unit and ask to be observed, be as demanding as you can.

Good luck I hope you get some reassurance and they take over the situation and give you some peace of mind. Smile

You have an infection and waters are leaking. Go to the hospital, chain yourself to a bed and refuse to leave. I lost twins due to infection after waters leaking in May. Get them to monitor the leaking if they don't believe you - waters can replenish so the level may not be going down even with the trickle but the infection is not a good thing. They should be monitoring your CRP level closely so they can intervene and deliver if it rises, before there are any serious consequences for the baby. It doesn't even sound like they have taken a second reading of the CRP level in the blood after the first blood test? Definitely demand closer care - it is your pregnancy and your body and you know your waters are leaking. I really hope that you manage to get them to take you seriously - clearly the first hospital did start taking you seriously or they wouldn't have referred you to the other one, so maybe you could go back to them with your concerns and get them to get the other hospital to take you seriously? I hope everything goes well for you and your twins xxx

xkatyx · 06/11/2011 21:32

I'm so sorry to hear you lost your babies, what a awful thing to have to experience!!

The odd thing is I did go back to the first hospital and this is what happend today, they will not believe my waters are leaking at all.

They took my bloods today and I have to go back Wednesday for more!! I'm on antibiotics I just wish ( even though I really don't want to) they would admit me and keep a eye on the babies.

I'm exhausted from it all I feel like I'm fighting a loosing battle!!!

xkatyx, my waters were leaking like that with my DD. I went they said oh yes, looks like a hindwater break (whatever that means, waters broken is waters broken in my book), tested the leaking fluid, found it positive for amniotic fluid, then said that as I'd used thrush treatment the night before they went at 5:30am it might have given a false positive for amniotic fluid (how I don't know...). My cervix was closed, tight and posterior. They scanned me and said the fluid level was on the low side of normal but ok, so no sign tere, and sent me away saying come back if any more, wear a pad etc etc- you know what they say! SO I did, of course, and went back, and they agreed, and was sent home again (!!??) and then again (!!??) and finally induced so my baby was born 57 hours after a definite rupture of membranes. She was fine though. But I didn't have an infection.

If I was you, I'd sort out your childcare, and go back, and say you're positive, and badger them until they listen. Very stressful for you, but important. I felt like an idiot at the time.

When they do a speculum, how do they do it? I had to lie on my back, without moving at all for an hour to allow sufficient fluid to collect when they tested it again for me, otherwise they said there's no way of telling if it's trickling. Is that what they did for you?

Good luck!

dreamfeeder · 06/11/2011 21:42

p.s. hello dachs, so glad you're diffed again. How far along are you? I read the Twins Club 2 thread from the beginning recently (after I found out I'm exxpecting twins) and was crying over your story. So dreadful and heart-breaking, so I'm so glad you're on your way to being a mum soon.

BelleRomford74 · 06/11/2011 21:43

Feel for you, such a worrying time. The same thing happened to a friend of mine 5 weeks ago but with 1 baby not twins. She was 35 weeks. She kept getting sent home & told to keep checking her temp, her infection level was something like 11 when it should be around 5 I think.. I said to her the same as above just tell them that you are worried sick & they don't seem to be taking her stress levels into account & that it could be the life of HER baby in the balance...basically kick up a huge fuss!! They kept her in, gave her steroid injections for his lungs & induced her the following day!! Luckily he was fit & healthy!!
I do think some maternity staff need to appreciate what a worrying time pregnancy is for us mums. Good luck x

xkatyx · 07/11/2011 09:38

Thank you everyone, dreamfeeder yes I was kept lying down for a while before hand!!! They really won't have none of it.

I have been up the hospital every day since Thursday and just getting know where!

I'm so worried!!!

dreamfeeder · 07/11/2011 12:31

Well good luck katy, but I definitely had a closed cervix and a similar experience with my waters last time. Maybe it could be the differences between a twin pregnancy and a normal one, though with everyone agreeing the pads are very wet etc I'm inclined to think you're right.

Have they scanned you again to check your waters again?

I hope you get somewhere, or get some reassurance you believe.

xxx

xkatyx · 07/11/2011 12:59

I haven't been scanned again yet. Hopefully I will get somewhere when I go wednesday, so stressful.

I think if I have to have another speculum I may scream

IME your cervix can still be closed when your waters have broken. Why are they persisting in saying it can't be?

I was much earlier than you when I prommed for the second time, but my cervix was supposedly closed and no water pooling. They lookes so many times but didn't believe me even when I started bleeding. What had happene was the waters had already gone and as they replenished, I was losing more water but never at the exact moment they bloody looked (4 or 5 times was it in the end?). Totally agree on the stupid speculum exams, you are not supposed to have them when you've prommed but because they don't believe you've prommed they keep bloody doing them.

At least you have had antibiotics, I suppose that's all they'd be doing anyway, if you prom before 34 weeks and no infection and baby ok they don't induce you.

Isn't there a colour change swab thing they can do? Or can you get hold of some of those amniosense pads?

xkatyx · 07/11/2011 19:01

I'm showing signs of infection in my bloods. But it cant just be a coincidence?
It's exactly what happens with my last baby my cervix was shut and no pooling and showing infection. I was 34 weeks. Anyway they induced me but she was really poorly.

I just would feel happier being closely monitored ( like they said they would do Friday)

I just understand what happend since then consultant said I was to have 4 hourly obs untill babies are born! Then I get sent to another hospital incase babies were to be born ( had no space for babies in nicu) then all of a sudden they have completely changed even though I have a infection!!!!

OP posts:
CombineArvester · 07/11/2011 19:35

Oh Katy. Get tough - say you want someone senior to write in your notes, dated and signed exactly why they have come to the decision they have, why their opinions have changed, why they have stopped the 4 hourly obs, whether they think you have an infection or not, why they think your waters haven't broken...

When my waters broke they later tested urine and it was positive for infection, but those dipsticks show up anything - in my case I didn't have a urine infection, it was an infection in the amniotic fluid that was showing up in the dipstick iyswim.

I think if possible you could ask to speak to the consultant in charge of your care.

dreamfeeder · 07/11/2011 19:47

Yes, I agree with combineArvester. At one point I was told it wasn't my waters do carry on as normal. I joked and said 'best not go swimming as I'd planned then' but they said oh no, go ahead!!! How to get a good infection... I would ask to see the consultant and do that. It's not you being paranoid. They had a plan you were happy with, then changed it to nothing without explanation!!! I'd be scared and worried too.
I hope you get somewhere quickly... Xxx

xkatyx · 09/11/2011 20:46

Hi, just a quick update.

I had a scan today again and and twin 1 has reduced fluid infact alot so being
Admitted, just on ctg

Thinking of you
Good luck x

dreamfeeder · 09/11/2011 20:51

Oh xkatyx, you'll be ok and so will your girls. Try and relax. You were right, your waters had gone, your babies are fine and they are finally looking after you properly. Will they induce you or c section? Don't worry, you may well meet them soon and if they're not safe and happy in there best they're out.

I'll be thinking of you, and hoping you can look forward to meeting them and let the doctors and staff look after you all. Sorry, how many weeks are you?
Xxx

banana87 · 09/11/2011 20:57

Try not to worry Katy. You are in good hands now and they are taking you seriously and monitoring you closely. Fingers crossed things settle so the twins can stay put a bit longer.

CombineArvester · 09/11/2011 20:58

I am so glad you are finally being taken seriously. You are nearly 31 weeks so your girls have much less likelihood of serious problems than, say a 27 or 28 weeker. Get yourself on the Bliss website. I hope things go very smoothly with the delivery and you are now getting the care you deserve.

DiffedAgainDachs · 10/11/2011 06:42

Am glad they finally started taking you seriously. Hope all goes well xxxxxx

LoveBeingAFirework · 10/11/2011 06:56

Just seen this hope everything is ok.

mrsrvc · 10/11/2011 09:14

Just seen this. Hope all is ok this morning and glad to hear that you are finally getting the care you and your babies deserve.

Catsycat · 10/11/2011 15:15

Shocked to read how confusing and worrying your treatment has been, poor you. I hope you are all well now, and that you will come and update us when you are able to.

BB3 · 11/11/2011 05:51

xkatyx sorry just seen this thread (thanks Dream for prompting). Firstly well done for fighting for your girls and realising something was wrong, if it was left up to the hospital then I doubt you would be getting the care you are now.

Secondly, good luck, try to relax and think of meeting your little ones (maybe you already have, maybe it will be soon).

Thinking of you all, update us when you can xx
