hi im 32 wks pregnant with my second child, doctors found out my cervix was shortening at 13 wks so iv been using progesterone pesseries ever since to help my cervix stay strong and long. They have worked so far and i am now 32 wks.Im wondering if there is anyone who has used the progesterone pesseries for the same reason and if so when did they stop using them and how long after did they give birth?

I'm in a similar position. Cervical stitch at 18 weeks and progesterone since then. Am 32 weeks tomorrow. I'm off to see my consultant now and am due to stop the pessaries tomorrow. Will ask her and post back later.

Hi i am taking these as part of the opptimum trial and am taking them from 22 to 34 weeks. Ill be 34 weeks on friday so stopping then.

SusieQ73 · 07/11/2011 11:59

Consultant advised another 2 weeks of Progesterone to take me to 34 weeks.

susie have you been given steroids? Am interested as i was offered them but didnt want to take them unless definite signs of preterm labour

missmoo007 · 07/11/2011 20:31

Hi all. I'll be taking part in the optimumm trial too, though I'm just 17 weeks ATM so not started yet. Just wanted to say how fabulous you're all still going at 30 plus weeks. Sending you positive vibes for long pregnancies and healthy large babies! Smile

SusieQ73 · 08/11/2011 08:42

Sounds like we are all in the same boat. Am sick to death of the pessaries but also worried about stopping them!
I had the steroids at 25 weeks as there was some funnelling at the top of the cervix. On the cervical scan to we could see the membranes bulging into the cervix and the baby coming behind. By some miracle, either the stitch or Progesterone, this has not changed and we are now looking forward to the stitch coming out at 37+1 and if nothing happens c-section at 38+3.
I've been on rest for 14 weeks now but the end is in sight. Good luck to you all x

Ive been on bedrest for 6 weeks now. Its hard isnt it? Im jusr glad im allowed to stay home and not be in hospital. Did you have a previous preterm labour? My ds was born at 30 weeks after i had a show at 20 weeks and was dilated at 25 weeks. Im now 33 + 4 so really pleased tonhave got this far but am aiming for 35 weeks this time. Getting lots ofntightenings and cramping but have done since 13 weeks and nothing has happened so they think it is just an irritable uterus.

SusieQ73 · 08/11/2011 09:16

Bedrest is the worst, I've only recently been allowed to be a little more active. Am also very grateful to be at home! How is your ds? Are you aiming for natural delivery?
Ds2 was sadly stillborn at 24 weeks after PROM at 21 weeks. It was just too early. They now think that the membranes bulged into my short cervix and burst hence the extra monitoring this time.
I also can't believe I'm 32 weeks today! Yipee!

Mmmmcheese · 08/11/2011 09:53

I also had bulging membranes at 25 weeks last time but thankfully didnt prom. In fact, they hadnto break my waters before i could push ds out! He is now a very happy cheeky 2 year old but he did suffer a small brain haemorrage when in NICU and now has mild cerebral palsy. It just means he is a bit wobbly and slow to walk, thankfully he wasnt affected mentally at all.
Very sorry to her about your ds. I cant imagine how difficult that mustbhave been. Has it madenyou particularly anxious thisnpregnancy? I have found every day a struggle againstvfear and am also terrified of the birth asnlast time itnwas very traumatic and resulted in a forceps delivery with no pain relief. Also, this baby is measuring HUGE and was 5 lbs 10 at 32 weeks so im worried its going to be even worse than ds delivery as he was only 3 lbs 13oz and i still couldnt push him out.
I dont have a stitch. What are you allowed to do out of bed? I think they would probably let me do more than i am doing but every time i get out of bed i get contractions so im too scared to do anything. I really want to get to 34 + 6 as that is when i would no longer need to get steroids. I have bought an advent calendar to help count down the days!
Its god to know im not the only one on bedrest, sometimes itnfeels like i am andnit gets very lonely. Also very hard not being able to look afte or play with ds.

Thank you, the loss of ds2 (1 year ago on Thursday) has made this pregnancy very stressful even before the cervix problems came up again. Dh has not allowed himself to believe that we will have a baby at the end of this.
I am also terrified of the birth and that's why I've chosen an elective section. I had an emergency section with ds1 at 36 weeks but delivered ds2 naturally. It was the most awful experience that I would never care to repeat. I just hope this one holds out long enough although they have said that if I go in to labour I can choose to go straight for a section. I think it will come down to how we both feel mentally/emotionally when we get to the hospital.
I have the opposite problem to you in that this baby is measuring small - 8 days behind. The fluid level was low until about 4 weeks ago but we are hoping that the increased fluid will allow it to grow a bit more.
Lovely to hear that your ds is so happy. It must be very hard to be in bed with a 2 year old around! Ds1 is 4 and at school since September and largely independent. I am now allowed to walk around Tesco, just not actually do the shopping. Never though a trip to Tesco would be so exciting - it's so nice to just get out of the house.
