I stayed awake all night with this fireball in my chest. I couldn't sleep because of the feeling.

I thought it would disappear when I woke up, but it's been there all day, and being hungry isn't helping, as I think I'm aggravating it the more I eat.

I've tried milk, yoghurt, gaviscon...it's continously there. Just this ball of acidic fire in my chest, that won't burp out.

Anyone please got any good remedies?

Be careful with the rennies they can give you gallstones. Gavison is a better long term solution.

I am pg with %234 and the heartburns started earlier and got worse every time. This time I knew I was pregnant because of the heartburn!
This time I've tried fruit indigestion tablets from tesco ( ok) , ranatadin( a bit better) gaviscon ( quite soothing but so gross!) and the best cure so far drinking lemonade while eating!

So my tip is lemonade as it seems to release the gas before it gets stuck!

Oh and avoid your trigger foods!

Posies - I'd just like to thank you for the hot milk remedy! IT WORKS!!

I drank a mug full of hot hot milk with a bit of honey twice yesterday before bed, and last night I was absolutely fine, and today has been great too!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I'm going to go out and buy some gaviscons tablets, and tums? tomorrow for emergencies when I'm out!

In my second pregnancy I barely slept due to vile heartburn. At the point of total madness I saw GP. He prescribed Zantac. Hallelujah!!
This time I started taking it at 12 weeks. Midwife didn't bat an eyelid.
It just works !!!

ASDA own brand antacid sweets.

I lived off them in the last few months of my first pregnancy, they're cheap, they work and they don't taste bloody disgusting like Gaviscon.

I'm crippled with heartburn this pg. Strawberry or chocolate milk. That ready made stuff (sainsburys one seems the best for me!). Only way I can describe the reason it works is because it seems really thick. Nothing has ever got rid of it completely. I can't eat crisps, bread, salt, biscuits, cheese, chocolate, pretty much anything bar pasta. I also can't take gaviscon as it makes me vom. Zantac or something on prescription has been recommended to me. Water only diluted my heartburn, didn't take it away. You all have my sympathy! Am 40 weeks nearly so praying the agony is nearly over.

Gaviscon convert here.

Zantac, you say?

harassedandherbug · 07/11/2011 10:06

Love Hearts!! Plus they taste much nicer than anything else.

I'm taking my four doses of Gaviscon a day - after meals and before bed - but the Love Hearts are great for inbetween and really do help.

I wish I could try the hot milk, but just typing it is making me feel sick........ Spicy foods make no difference, and we had fish & chips from the chip shop the other night and I was fine after them. Sods law! I also find a spoonful of Greek yogurt really good.

You're welcome, I love to pass on a little (only) knowledge!! Smile
