Changes in movement at 20ish weeks - bit worried

I'm nearly 21 weeks and I have been feeling baby's movements since about week 19. Lately they had been getting stronger and more frequent, but for the last couple of days are a lot weaker and less frequent. I know the books say that it can be quite variable at this stage, but is has me a bit worried...

I saw the midwife a couple of days ago and the heartbeat was really strong on the doppler and bub was kicking away while she did it. The last two days have shaken my confidence a bit though.

Just wondered if anyone else had/is having similar movement patterns?

Thanks!

hi im 24+6 and saw my midwife yesterday and was asking about movement, cos i've been full of a cold the last week and pip hasn't been wriggling like normal. Alot less and not as strong. She said not to worry, at this stage the time of day it wriggles can really vary (i was saying it tends to be in a morning, and in an evening, a lil during the day if i've spent a few hours on my feet) and also how hard it is cos it could be kicking into my back so i wouldn't feel it as much. She said to me if it gets to evening and I haven't felt 10 movements (doesn't matter on time or how hard they are) then ring up and get checked out.

At 20 weeks there's plenty of room for baby to move around and tuck itself into a corner where you can't feel it as well. In fact most women won't actually be feeling regular movements at 20 or even 21 weeks so try not to worry, most don't feel regualr movements until about a month later.

However if you really can't relax, then phone your local day gynae (the number will be in your notes) and ask to come in to be checked.

At 20 weeks there is heaps of room in there. The baby may have possibly turned and is kicking into an area of fluid or into the placenta rather than kicking your bladder or ribs etc which you may have felt more. I would have started feeling odd movements before 20 weeks (currently on 4th pregnancy) then varied frequency of movements till about 24 weeks when they became more regular. If you are worried after a quiet spell have a glass of iced water or can of coke and lie down for 20mins, usually the cold or sugar wakes them up and you will feel something.

Or have you been doing different things the last couple of days? More walking as that rocks the baby to sleep? I commented to my Doctor that DC3 wasn't moving much apart from in the evenings and she said yes but how often do you spend 30mins sitting down during the day to see if you can feel movements - the other 2 kids were under 4 so I was just too distracted during the day to notice the baby moving : )

Thanks ladies - still only feeling very feint and irregular movements, perhaps about ten in the whole day, in spite of eating sugar and resting for a few hours this evening, which might normally prompt some more vigor. My DH says the same as Fresh, that bub has probably turned to a different position and has been kicking somewhere I can't feel it very well for the last few days. It just makes me so worried though. Had a couple of MCs before this one and although I've been really good at staying positive I want this little one so much that the uncertainty is starting to get to me a bit now...

This whole thing is complicated by the fact I've only just met my midwife (I was living out of area until last week), I have no idea what it's reasonable to call her about (or when), and I don't know what to do if I have concerns 'out of hours'. I would love a reassurance scan but guessing I can only get that privately (I haven't got a date for my 20 week scan yet - alarming considering I am 21 weeks tomorrow!) Issy I will have a search through the notes and see if I can find a duty gynae for reference, that's a good suggestion.
