Grim dizziness, Doctors diagnose 'pregnancy'. Anyone else suffering?

A couple of weeks back I started having dizzy spells. BP fine, iron levels fine, all standard tests normal blah blah blah. Obstetrician at the hospital just told me it was due to pregnancy - well strike me down, I wondered what the enormous belly was all about

Anyway, am 30 weeks now and dizziness is getting steadily worse. It rarely occurs when standing up, usually when sitting or semi-reclining and never gets to the fainting stage, just feel sick and like the room is spinning and my head fuzzy.

Today it was so bad that I got down on the floor on my hands and knees, worried that I would keep over or fit (it's happened before when I fainted) and fall off the sofa and end up lying there till DH got home at 6pm! (Drama queen? Moi?) Anyway, even lying on my left side in the recovery position doesn't help, only hands and knees seem to.

I have self-diagnosed that my baby must be lying on some vital blood vessel or something, luckily s/he is happily kicking away in there, so it's just me I'm worrying for, but I am getting rather fed up.

Is anyone else suffering from anything similar? It would help a bit if I knew I wasn't alone in being a complete medical mystery. Failing that, perhaps you could help me come up with amusing activities one can do whilst on one's hands and knees... other than the obvious, which is (after all) what got me into this situation to start with!

Just a quick one to say that although I haven't got it, one of the people on my ante-natal thread has had the same thing- pregnancy related vertigo. She's been off work for weeks because of the dizziness; couldn't drive to get there or stand up at work.

I nominated her for the most pants pregnancy-related illness, and you have my sympathy as well!

Thanks for the sympathy. Standing up is actually one of the few times I feel OK, but obviously no good when I get tired! :)

Send her along here and we can moan together!

Hi,

Same here I'm 15 weeks + 1 and I get dizzy spells. I am sure I read somewhere that there is a vein that runs down the left handside of the body which is pretty important.

I tend to feel dizzy when I have had awful indigestion.

I've had that for the last 4 months, but at 25 weeks am a lot better - planning to start working from home after next week, after 3 months signed off. No idea how well that will go.
I ended up with an official diagnosis of 'unpleasant pregnancy'!

Lying down is the only solution I found - laptop propped on end to provide entertainment...

The same happened to me and I got told it was one of those things related to being pregnant with twins. All tests normal. I did have iron tablets in the house started taking these and have not experienced any of the symptoms since.

Hi MakesCakes, I know exactly how you feel! I had this in my first pregnancy and am now 33 weeks into my second pregnancy and the same symptoms are back. In my first pregnancy it really freaked me out as the medical professionals couldn't get to the bottom of it. For me, the first sign that I am going to start spinning is that my right ear blocks and then the spinning starts and then I have to lie down in a dark room with no light or noise until my ear clears and the spinning stops. After BP checks, iron level checks etc I even went to see an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat specialist) and they could not really diagnose but their final conclusion was that is was due to swelling of the inner ear canal and the weight of my pregnancy changing my centre of gravity so every now and then my body would just say - hold on I can't work out how to balance you and the spinning would start. As I say, I got panicky in the first pregnancy as it worried me and I wasn't totally satisfied with the medical professional answers but it stopped the day I gave birth to my DD and has only started again now I am pregnant with no.2. This time around, they are more frequent but they pass more quickly as I know what to do and just drop to the floor and lie down! thankfully, the warning of the ear blocking means I can be safe if it happens driving etc which thankfully hasn't happened! Sorry for long winded post but I remember how anxious I was first time around - I posted on here and my husband also posted as he was very worried about me - but it was all fine in the end. I would obviously keep monitoring it and tell all the relevant medical professionals so they can keep an eye on you but hopefully it is reassuring to know that there are others out there with the same thing!

I had dizziness caused by low BP in the first trimester, but that was always fixed by lying down with my legs elevated. Now in the third trimester it can only be fixed by getting on hands and knees - go figure! Thanks for all the support though - nice to know I'm not the only one suffering
