Beef spread is just not doing it for me.

I need pate!

They do nice veggie ones in Holland and Barrett like mushroom pate etc.

Nbg · 30/12/2005 19:39

Ah, so Mushroom Pate is ok?

I thought it still had liver in.

tapenade olive paste divine and very savoury...

Nbg · 30/12/2005 19:50

I've never heard of Tapenade.

What is it?

Apparently vegetarian pate is still off limits because of some very miniscule risk of listeria.

spruceylucy5 · 30/12/2005 19:56

The mushroom pate in a tube from Holland and Barratt is lovely!

coribells · 30/12/2005 19:57

Tapenade should be fine though. Only good if you like olives though.

You could still have mackerel pate if you fancy it. You can make a basic version with smoked mackerel fillets, cream cheese (go on! good source of calcium!) and lemon juice.

Im pg, and ive been eating pate (smacked wrist for me), also had prawns, runny egg and p-nuts. It did'nt do any harm last time and i'm sure it wont this time.

MrsQ · 30/12/2005 20:15

I've had p'nut butter, can take or leave prawns... but did find myself standing infront of the pate section in Sainsbo's today for an exceptionally long time - like the amount of time it take to become oblivous to DS running amok up and down the aisle. Normally not bothered but clearly the 'can't' factor is now kicking in - I remember dreaming of brie sandwiches washed down with gallons of coke when I was pg last time.

Is pate any less likely to have listeria if you make it yourself? (Altho, as I have no idea how you do that, its probably more likely to have it!)

feastofsteven · 30/12/2005 20:17

Humous. Pate (not liver) in jars is fine.

Nbg · 30/12/2005 20:22

I'll check out Holland and Barratt then.

I don't like Olives so the Tapenade is a no go.

Does Mushroom taste as good as Brussels and Ardennes though?

Tartex, yeast pate from health food stores. Comes in loads of flavours - I think original herb flavour is the most pate-like.

Nbg · 30/12/2005 20:25

Holland and Barratt aren't going to know whats hit them

Tartex is lovely - especially the herb flavour. Mmmmmm!

QueSerahSerah · 30/12/2005 20:57

You can have pate! Just limit it - my midwife told me that if I fancied anything perceived as "dodgy", buy it from the sealed pack section and never from a deli.

Of course, there is a risk of listeria, but how many times have you contracted that from eating pate before?? It is a risk, but it is miniscule.

If you want to limit your vitamin A (which is a different "risk" from eating pate or other products containing Vit A) buy a lovely fresh pack of mushroom or mackerel pate from the sealed section at the supermarket - straight in the fridge at home and eat before sell by date. Bobs your uncle. (there's no liver in mushroom pate if its marked up as veggie!)

I ate everything I fancied after wise advice from my midwife (although I limited pate for other reasons but blue cheese and prawns etc were regularly on my menu).

I am sure weightwatchers do one..it's a mediterannian (sp?) vegetables.. I know you don't need to be watching your weight but if you are desperate.....

Is it only me that keeps reading this as 'What can I eat to replace Pete'?

thecattleareALOHing · 30/12/2005 22:11

Hummus? Taramasalata? Or a non liver pate in a tin.

Rach69 · 31/12/2005 12:22
