Does this sound like heartburn... or possibly start of labour(?!)

Hi all,

I feel like such a prat for not being able to tell but does this sound like heartburn to you?

I'm 37 weeks and all day I've been having pain across the top of my bump. It started off quite high and I was certain it must be heartburn. It came in waves but only lasted a few seconds each time.

As the day progressed it carried on in waves only it started to radiate down my bump with each wave. Sometimes this was happening every 2 minutes, sometimes every 15/20 mins.

Eventually I got home, ate something and it went away for a while. It's just started up again and is really painful, every 5/10 minutes. It's a burning type pain which starts at the top of my bump (near my stomach which is why I think it's heartburn) and radiates down during a 'wave'. But again, only lasts for a few seconds each time.

Does this sound like heartburn? I've never really had it before but imagine this must be what it's like. Although I thought it would get worse after eating, not better... Confused

Or do you think it could be the onset of labour symptoms? It feels completely unlike my last labour but I'm also aware that each labour can be different...

Not worried so much as curious really...

Does not sound like heartburn, Heartburn is in your throat, and it gets worse after eating ime, too.

The repeat pattern of what you describe sounds like ctx, I suggest you phone & chat with MW.

Ooh exciting, haven't been on a "Am I in labour?" thread for ages!!

I wouldn't get too excited - I very much doubt I could be lucky enough to be in labour!! Grin

Thanks for your thoughts on heartburn, that's kind of what I thought too...

Hi,

I am sure it is probably nothing to worry about but I would call the mw as a burning in the diaphragm area can be a sympton of pre-eclampsia. Sorry don't want to worry you as I am sure it will be fine but it may be worth just getting this checked out.

Good Luck x
