Was at hospital on Tuesday and it was something/93. Just been to dr and it's now 146/100. Got appt at hospital tomorrow to have it checked again. Supposing it's still high?

I have no protein in urine and no dizziness etc. Does anyone know what's likely to happen if it's high but nothing else is amiss?

You can be given tablets to try and keep it under control. They may also want the midwife to visit you daily to measure your bp.

I had to take BP tablets from 34 weeks with ds. See if midwife can visit you at home and measure your BP.

BuffyFan · 04/11/2011 10:17

I'm 37+3 and have seen MW every 2-3 days for the past two weeks to keep an eye on my BP (went up to 150/95).

It really does depend on what's normal for you - is your BP normally a bit on the high side like mine? If it's normally much lower and then it's shot up, that's more of a worry and they may want to get you onto meds to keep it under control.

But don't worry (easier said than done, I know) - worrying will only make it worse!!

LowLevelWhiiingeing · 04/11/2011 10:20

I also had to take BP tablets from 35 weeks (lobetalol?). They worked within half an hour of me swallowing the first one, really fast.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 04/11/2011 10:24

Thanks all. I've got an appt this afternoon which is giving me plenty of time to worry. I don't mind meds, I don't mind regular checks. What I'm scared of is going in and them telling me they're going to keep me in. I've seen so many threads on here from women who are kept in from early on until the baby is delivered. As you can see, I've worked myself up into a panic! Blush. I've even packed a bag... This is partly fuelled by the pain in my stomach this morning which may or may not have been BH (can't remember what they're like!) after me telling myself I hadn't had any other suspicious symptoms.

I started out at ??/80 which seems to be normal for me. I will be so glad when this baby is out!

Just remembering, I was on labetalol for about three months after I had DD. My BP went up a bit when I was pg with her, then about 3 hours after I gave birth it went through the roof, big panic, taken back down to delivery suite again and meds for a while afterwards.

aww, I totally understand the fear of staying in. I went in for a checkup and that was it for the rest of my pregnancy Sad

realistically, it is good that you've packed and if you have to go in, you would be in the best place to make sure nothing bad happens. Eclampsia is SO dangerous it's more scary than having to stay in hospital.

having said that, my fingers are totally crossed for you coming back home later on. good luck Smile

Pastabee · 04/11/2011 11:20

I don't have any experience of this but hope all goes ok for you at hospital.

summerfruitsalad · 04/11/2011 12:21

I had pregnancy induced high BP from 36 weeks, but also had protein in wee, varied from trace to ++. Basically I was admitted to hospital at 37 weeks after a day in the DAU being on the monitor and BP not going down (145/90-95) but my booking in was 110/60 so big jump for me. They put me on labetalol and it lowered it, then booked in for consultant care. Was also admitted again later that week because although BP was under the 140/90 threshold, I had protein again. That night in the hospital I did a 24hr urine collection (blergh) and it wasnt high enough to be considered PE. I saw my MW every few days for BP checks as they had a drop in clinic at a local health centre that I could go to. DS was born at 40+4 but I was strapped to that bloody monitor the whole time so they could monitor him and check my BP from time to time.

I am now 31 weeks and being seen at 32,34,36,37,38,39,40 for BP and urine checks because PIH could reoccur.

Basically you should be monitored more often, have your BP and urine checked all the time and if the MWs have any concern they will send you to the DAU and if the docs are concerned they may admit you. Hope all is ok at your appointment.

ceebeegeebies · 04/11/2011 12:26

I had high BP readings from about a similar stage of pregnancy to yours. I would go for my antenatal check-up, the BP reading would be high so they would send me to hospital to be monitored, further readings would be normal so they would send me home...only for the same thing to happen the next check-up and so on.

It became very frustrating as I did not have protein in urine or any other symptoms.

In the end, at about 35 weeks, it happened again and the hospital advised me to finish work (was planning on working up to 37 weeks) or they were going to sign me off anyway! I finished work, the high BP readings continued but always settled down on further monitoring. DS1 was born at 41 weeks, perfectly healthy Smile

No idea what it was (maybe 'white coat syndrome') as I did begin to get myself worked up before ante-natal appointments in case it happened again which was obviously counter-productive!

No advice, but just wanted you to know that it can happen and everything else be perfectly ok Smile Went on to have DS2 and my bp readings were perfectly fine throughout that pregnancy Hmm

LowLevelWhiiingeing · 04/11/2011 12:27

summer, I did a couple of those 24hr wee collection things. Walking around with a jug of wee is just lovely isn't it?!

oltob · 04/11/2011 12:38

I had white coat syndrome whcih meant my BP went sky high. I was regularly sent to the DAU to be monitored which was always fine. I even had a liver scan at one point (QCCH policy at the time), never had protein in the urine & was finally given my own dip-sticks(!) to check at home. Make sure you're as comfy as possible when they measure, feet flat on the floor. Don't worry about the extra monitoring it's in yours & baby's best interest, although frustrating I know. It's good that you're prepared with the bag. I remember near time I was kept in for an evening whilst they discussed inducing me, I had nothing so was very relieved when I was allowed home. DD was born naturally at 40 +10 (although they did recommend inducing me because it was up when i was admitted, I said no thanks).
I'm now expecting no.2 and was 150 somthing over 95 at my booking in, when measured at home I was 110/70. And so it begins again...

josephinebonaparte · 04/11/2011 12:46

Make sure you know the symptoms of pre eclampsia and if anything changes call your midwife straight away.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 04/11/2011 15:40

Thank you all :) I am not in hospital but very thankfully in my front room and feeling a tad silly. BP was back to 140/80, no protein in urine, all well.

However, I am now very well read on the symptoms of PE, which can only be a good thing. Thank you for your advice and good wishes :)

Brilliant news! Grin

Mum2be79 · 04/11/2011 18:16

Hi Gwen

I too am 31 weeks and on Wednesday I was sent to hospital when my BP reading was 150/95. At the beginning of my appointment it was 146/93 so was rising still 15 mins later.

They monitored me at hospital and it came down to 123/70 so sent me home. I've just had the reading checked again at my doctors and she said it was 'fine' but didn't tell me what it was.

She did say that BP rises can happen in pregnancy and then fall again for 'no apparent reason' but they'll keep an eye on it.

I too had no protein in my urine but I was diagnosed with GBS.

summerfruitsalad · 04/11/2011 20:46

Glad to hear everything is ok Gwen. You do end up spouting the list of PE symptoms they drill into you, but is best for you and baby. I am paranoid mine will go up again at 36 weeks!

lowlevel ah, the jug of pee, it was like a walk of shame to the loos in the postnatal ward, trouble is being 38 weeks you have to go so often!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 04/11/2011 21:32

Thank you :)

Oh it'll probably go up again. Still, it made a change from talking about blood sugar and glucose, which is the usual stick they beat me with Hmm Wink

I won't enquire further about the jug of wee....
