Why do some midwives treat you like you are a nuisance child?

Phoned my maternity unit today because I have not received any results regarding my 12 week scan and combined blood tests, which I had over 3 weeks ago. Now, all I was doing was enquiring as to when I was likely to receive my results. I wasn't cracking the whip or being an awkward and entitled arse, I was just asking a polite and reasonable question.

Anyhoo, the woman who answered the phone (to be fair, she may not have been a midwife) said, "Yes, yes, yes. You will get all that information at your first booking appointment". What? She wasn't even listening to what I had said. I explained, "No, I have already attended my booking appointment. I am enquiring about my scan and blood test results". "Oh", she said, "Well, i'll have to get someone to phone you back. We are very busy you know". FFS! I know the NHS is busy, and I totally appreciate that, that's why I waited over 3 weeks before phoning.

Maybe she was having a bad day, but I'm still pissed off at her rudeness. I mean, excuse me for being concerned over some very important test results in connection with my first ever pregnancy.

Rant over. :)

I didn't have a nuchal scan or anything, but all my booking in blood tests were discussed with me on my 16 week appointment, and my MW would have discussed the nuchal scan then too.

I think if the results are nothing to worry about, they don't contact you, and leave it to your MW to discuss with you.

That would be totally acceptable, however, that's not what they told me would happen. The sonographer and midwife that I saw at my 12 week scan told me I would receive the results through the post in roughly a week to 10 ten days time.

Try going in when half the staff have gone to a lecture for the afternoon. Frosty at best! :)

And I thought this thread would be about that nice Japanese drink :)

Sorry you are having a frustration time.

I have to say though that I have met quite a few MWs in the last 34 weeks and they have all been lovely; the sonographers too.

The only problem I have had so far was when an A and E doctor informed me I was miscarrying. He was rude, sharp, emotionless...and bloody well wrong!!!

Chineapple I know what you mean! The sonographer told me I'd get the results in 2 weeks, nothing came, sent me into a blind panic that something was wrong and that's why they wouldn't tell me through the post! Midwife couldn't understand why I was so worked up when I had my next appointment. I appreciate they see people like us all day every day but if they all followed the sane guidelines it would save a lot of unnecessary worry!

I have nothing but respect for all the midwives I have come into contact with since the start of my pregnancy. I love the NHS and I would take to the streets if it was ever threatened. I'm just venting because this woman was such an uppity little moo. :)
