Im 32 weeks pregnant and always thought I would be able to breast feed dispite having breast implants. The implants I have have been done by a cut under the breast so nipples been left alone. Has anyone got implants and been able to breast feed? I had one implant at 17 due to only developing one breast(one side a DD one side a A and then later had both done to make them look natural. Have a little breast tissue in the one that hadn't grown so should be able to breast feed both sides. I havent got any bottles or even thought about bottle feeding till recently and wondering if I should expect to not be able to. Have asked at the hospital to see someone for some advice but havent been put in touch with anyone.

Hi I don't have experience of this but I expect that it will be a very individual thing so perhaps other women's experiences won't be that useful or reassuring for you. Like most things you're likely to get a range of responses from 'I couldn't at all' to 'I had no problems' with an 'I had some problems but persevered/mix fed/and then found I hated it/ went back to work etc' thrown in. None of this can really predict what it's going to be like for you, and the best way to find out is just to try it when the time comes. Presumably if you're Physiologically able to feed your milk will come in and you'll be fine (well, once you and baby get your moves sorted together). If it turns out you can't, then formula and bottles are available at 24hr Boots, supermarkets etc. It's not difficult to make up so I don't think you need to worry about being unprepared for bottle-feeding, may as well assume that you can breastfeed and learn about it until proved otherwise IYSWIM. Hope this doesn't sound like I'm dismissing your fears, it's definitely not my intention, I just think you're doing well to assume it'll work, deal with later if it doesn't.

My sister had implants, don't know the type but from what you have described the positioning of hers sounds the same as yours. She breast fed 2 kids without problems, so I would say the same as ladyMaybe, assume it all works and deal with it later if it doesn't. Good luck with everything.

My friend has BF with implants without problems. I'm pretty sure they were the same position as yours.

As someone who ebf both my babies i would really recommend buying a steriliser, a breast pump and usually you get a bottle free with them although i have also bought some separate as i hope to be encourage this baby to take a bottle of expressed milk Hmm .

I didn't with my first and it took a while to establish bf as she had a very sore head post birth it was a nightmare i hadn't bought a steriliser and dh had mental dash to shops to get one with MW at house saying baby needed expressed milk and screaming 1 day old. I have bought them all again this time just as its handy to be able to express anyway.

Thanks for replies its great to hear that you know people who have managed to breast feed while pregnant. Just had a few friends asking me if I thought I would still be able to do it with the breast implants I just presumed I would as nipples not been moved around and some said I wouldnt. Will just see how I get on going to give it a good goxx

It really depends if you have any nerve damage, good odds you can, just try it and see. You may have to work a bit harder making sure you have a good milk supply. Check out any local BF support groups they are invaluable ime. Good luck :)

Hi Pregnantmini. I am also in the same boat as you. I have a dd that is older than the amount of time ive had my implants so didnt bf her with implants but this next dc will be breastfed if possible.

I have one very sensitive nipple since i had the op, and its been like this for aslong as i can remember. Sometimes its tender just brushing past it with my arm etc. The nipple has only been this sensitive since ive been pregnant, but its never been 100% since the op.

I am stressing about it, and hoping that i can be sucessful at it this time. Im hoping that once it comes to bf my nipples will just get used to it!

My implants are natural looking ones and my scars are underneath my breasts in the crease.

Good luck and let us know how you get on! Your due much before me. Im 17+2

ive got implants and i have bf my dds no problem whatsoever.

My nipples also lost some sensitivity too. But certain times of the month would make them a little sensitive again, well one of them, not the other! I had my op 4 years ago, so they would have more than healed and fused etc. My nipple is also as you describe yours a penfain sensation! Im sort of glad its only the one not the other, but it still doesnt help as baby has to feed from both boobs! Lol

Nearlymumof3, how did you find the senstivity in your nipples? This is the only thing that is making me feel like it might not work as it might be too painful to cope with.

BabyBorn · 04/11/2011 10:58

A painful sensation i ment not penfain! Lol

curleywurley2 · 04/11/2011 18:54

Ive got implants too and chose not to breast feed with dd1 as my breasts where extremely sensitive to touch never mind to atempt to breast feed.
Currently 37weeks with baby number 2 and found that my boobs are no where near as sensitive this time but still not going to breast feed as i found bottle feeding worked out better for me.

nearlymumof3 · 05/11/2011 07:39

babyborn, the sensitivity was not an issue for me. im sure you will be find bf.

nearlymumof3 · 05/11/2011 07:39

fine

pregnantmimi · 05/11/2011 11:09

baby born my nipples were so painful in the first trimester it was the first sign I was pregnant and was shocked the feeling had come back and was painful but my friends who havent got implants said the same thing about having painful nipples so maybe its normal I remember then being so painful my mum came round and I was crying with my head on the table! So excited about the birth now cant wait to meet little manxx
