Hi all

I'm 38 weeks tomorrow with first baby and was diagnosed yesterday as having Polyhydramnios which is a high level of amniotic fluid. I have a consultant appt on Fri to discuss things but just wondering if anyone on here has experienced this and can let me know what to expect re birth, options etc.

I did with one of my twins, I was having a c-sec anyway so birth options not a problem. Just be caeful if your waters break etc, i think its a get to hospital asap (thats what i was always told).

I had this. It flagged up a kidney problem with ds before he was born! one of his kidneys wasn't draining properly, he was treated with antibiotics daily til he could be scanned at 8 wks old and again at 12 weeks when it was found his kidney had developed into a nice normal one. Apparently kidney infections in newborns are extra awful and require hospitalisation so we're glad it was noticed.

Thanks 101North, I've heard that it can flag up some issues. Have appt tomorrow so will see what consultant says. Did you go on to deliver at term/late or did they induce/c section you??

Hope appt went well sasda

I had gestational diabetes so ds was planned c-section at 38 weeks. Polyhydramnios actually righted itself by 37 weeks so hopefully it will sort itself out. fingers crossed Smile

Yes, during my last pregnancy. I was induced at 38 weeks. Baby was fine. They never figured out why!

My friend had this & consultant attempted to drain fluid twice each time though the fluid came back within 48 hours. The consultant recommended a c-section but in the end she had a vaginal birth which went fine.. her dd had a coulple of minor issues, she was vitamin D deficient & needed extra vitamin D supplements & has hypermobile hip joints due to lax ligerments don't know if either are connected to the fluid issue. I do remember googling it when she was diagnosed & reading some worrying stuff!! But also reading the vast majority of women go on to deliver perfectly healthy babies. Hope all goes wellx

I had this but wasn't diagnosed until after DS1 was born at 38 weeks by emergency section.

Please please keep an eye on movements but if there is any change go and be monitored, and make sure it is for more than 5 minutes.

Hello, I have PH also GD. is this the likely cause do you reckon on its own?

foolingwithmisskitty · 19/09/2012 09:39

I had PH with my second son. They gave a number of reasons - PH, kidney problems etc but he was born perfectly healthy so it was just one of those things. He was breech so I had a c-section at 38 weeks. Good luck, hope everything goes well for you.
