Hello,

has anyone bought a mattress protector for their bed in case of waters breaking in the night? And if so, where did you buy from please? I haven't found one yet but keen to get something on the bed now I'm 38 weeks!

TIA

Hi there

Mine arrived on Saturday - I got it online from the duvet and pillow company and it was, i think, a tenner for a kingsize one (there is an offer on). It's got a sort of soft covering so it's not like a dreadful rubber one from the 80s.

Spending money on it of course means that my waters will break in Tesco instead :)

i'm sleeping on a doubled over duvet on my side of the bed - i put one of those disposable drynights pad things over the danger area - they are the width to tuck under a single mattress so tuck under my doubled over duvet to stay in place.

Woodifer · 01/11/2011 19:45

oh they are also the right size to just about do a cot!

try argos or dunelm... Argos double for example...

I got a great one called a Hippychick on a recommendation from a MNer over on the good housekeeping board. We're very happy with it, it feels like brushed cotton, very breathable and doesn't crackle or anything like that. It was delivered the next day from Amazon.

Xiaoxiong · 01/11/2011 20:58

Oh and also, I was just going to sleep on some plastic sheeting or a pad on my side of the bed (thinking it was just for waters breaking...) but the MN advice was that waters breaking is one occurrence but you'll be likely to have little people climbing in bed with you for the next 10 years so something to protect your mattress from accidents/sick/assorted fluids is worth spending a bit of money on...

I had some DryNites bedmats leftover from trying to toilet train DD1 at night. The one night I put that under the sheet on my side of the bed, my waters broke and DD2 was born 12 hours later Grin

I have these Bed Mat

mashpot · 01/11/2011 22:13

Great, thanks all. They didn't have bed mats in the mothercare I visited today but I think I'll go for the full mattress protector to be on the safe side.

Price from the duvet and pillow place looks good, thanks bigmac, I've gone for that and will no doubt join you with waters now breaking in public instead!

I can see the logic in getting a super protection Tyelperion but can't face spending that atm when I have so many other bits and bobs to buy!

I've just installed the mattress pads from mothercare and think they're rubbish.. I wriggle around a lot in the night to get comfy and they are never in place when I wake up... Rather disappointed as I thought I'd use them after the birth for blood...

Might consider a proper one now though

Ikea does nice once. they are sort of fleece top and plastic bottom and feel not at all plasticky.
saved our matress twice :o

Someone suggested I use puppy pads but as it was I slept on a towel and that was enough to catch the worst of it.
