Nappy Bins?

Hubby reminded me we need a bin in the nursery. I've been preoccupied with the pretty bits, I forgot the practical bit!

Just something with a lid he said, so now have found this brand new world with lots of nappy bins with twist formations for putting nappies in the bin and it closes them without actually wrapping them in a bag etc. I know it's not a dramatic crucial thing, but thought i would ask what have you bought?

I've heard bad things about those bins, I've just got a basic plastic swing bin, and got scented nappy bags which are cheap as chips. Put nappy in bag, chuck in bin, done Grin

Dc4 and I've never ever had a nappy bin.......They normally appear on "what was your biggest waste of money" type threads Grin.

I worried about this beforehand, but hhonestly a normal bin with a lid is fine when used with scented nappy bags. You'll be emptying it pretty regularly anyway so it won't have time to get stinky.

my sister got lots of use out of her nappy bin unfortunatly it was to keep her own bits n bobs in the bathroom in, no idea what happened to the top bit!

i'm not buying a nappy bin at all just going to chuck them in the outside bin as i go so they don't smell i'm a bit of a clean freak tho.

My SIL said she used hers lots with her DD, so I bought t sangenic bin - from mothercare, for £9.99 on offer recently. So even if it turns out that it's not t most useful purchase, at least it wasn't too pricey!

I'm using washables so having a nappy bin in the bathroom to keep the nappies before wash day. Friends whove used disposables and used them have said they are a waste of time. Even if u empty it every day cos it doesn't take long till the start to humm and no matter what they tried the smell just always seemed to linger!

A bucket for real nappies!!! Even if you use some Pampers or whatever think about real nappies as apart from the environmental aspects they are really good for squirty poo/nappy rash issues! The local midwives give out one littlelamb ones for free here!

Kayzr · 01/11/2011 16:31

A nappy bin is a waste of time!! Just buy a normal bin and put the nappy into a nappy sack.

TimothyClaypoleLover · 01/11/2011 16:34

A nappy bin is the biggest waste of money. And even a normal bin is not necessary and extra expense. Just put the nappy in a nappy sack and chuck it in the outside bin.

I got mine on eBay with spare bag cartridges £1.50 with free collection Grin figured if it's useless then I haven't really lost out but if I use it a lot, can just get refill cartridges - it's the tommee tippee one!

A regular, quite small bin with a well fitting lid (preferably a peddle bin) is a far better investment IMO! A smallish bin will get emptied regularly enough not to get stinky, can be used later as a regular bin and doesn't break creating expensive stinky poo sausages...

DejaWho · 01/11/2011 18:25

Thank you for the poo sausages visual before my tea!

I was just planning on bagging all the bits from a change in a nappy bag, carrying it downstairs with me and bunging it in the stinky outdoor bin to be honest (or a bigger bathroom one to be honest - I don't like bedroom bins cos people put stuff in them and no bugger empties 'em).

TeWihara · 01/11/2011 19:04

Yeah, we just chucked them in the bathroom or the kitchen Shock bin, because those have good seals so don't smell and get emptied regularly.

Unless you're doing cloth nappies a dedicated bin is a bit of a waste of time!

pootlebug · 01/11/2011 19:36

I bought a stupid 'keeps the smell all in' nappy bin. It doesn't. So I put the nappies in plastic bags and take straight to outside bin if they contain poo - if not they might sit in an interim extra plastic bag and then I'll take two or three out at once later on.

I am not the worlds fussiest houseproud type by any means, but I still think poo nappies need to go straight outside.
