Hello,

Looking for ideas for a present for a friends 2nd DD. There's only 2 years between them, so they already have all the essentials plus loads of toys and clothes.
I will probably end up giving them a gift voucher, but any ideas on something more personal will be appreciated.

This website www.alphabetgifts.co.uk/ has some nice things especially if you know the name in advance.

I have 2 DD less than 1.5 yrs apart and the nicest things we have had are a few personalised things that were bought for our youngest. It means we can keep a few things in her memory box that were obviously just for her, not handed down from the older sister. A friend made a beautiful with her name on it that we have kept.

I loved getting a couple of nice soft toys that hadn't been chewed/mauled by my eldest. this is still one of her favourites four years later. You can't go wrong with Jellycat soft animals imo!

I am pg with my second, and if I found it that it was anotehr boy, I'd still like to receive anything at all, as it woudl mean that it was bought for him, rather than a hand me down from his brother.

So anything really - clothes, a soft toy, something personalised etc. What about a baby box for mementos?

All of our cloth books, newborn toys etc are, now I look at them, filthy and can only be sponge cleaned rather than properly washed so, if anyone asks me for suggestions for DC2, I'll be asking for those.

BlueAndBrown · 01/11/2011 20:50

Murtette Just chuck them in the washer, in a pillowcase on a cool wash. I wash all our cloth books and the newborn toys and never had a problem.

Thanks everyone for your help, I hadn't thought about personalizing stuff or the fact that dd 1's things wil be a bit worse for wear. I will have a look at both websites.
Phlossie, I am a big fan of jellycat already! I will have a look at the website to see what new things they have as I don't want to repeat the same teddy for a different baby and I have already given some as presents and have 2 for my ds.

A cushion or picture or photo frame, something to make its' bedroom its' own.

Or I have always liked getting a new bunny rug for over them in the car seat or pram for each baby.

Bibs and socks also never seem to last one child let alone the next one : )

When friends have had a second baby I have always taken a small minding wrapped for the first born as well, so they don't feel left out. Doesn't need to be expensive as pre-schoolers have no idea of cost but even a colouring book, story book or stickers or hair accessories from a supermarket or Poundland, cost next to nothing but mean a lot to the sibling.

I will definitely be buying any pregnant friends a set of Jazzytoes socks for their babies. They're the only socks my DS wears now, my sis b

I will definitely be buying any pregnant friends a set of Jazzytoes socks for their babies. They're the only socks my DS wears now, my sis bought us a box of cowboy boot ones and I've since bought the trainer set too. For a girl, the Mary Jane set is gorgeous. And they actually stay on baby's feet, unlike most socks.

I had 2 DDs less than 2 years apart and what I liked was getting new outfits/cuddlies that were just hers. Yes, you have all the old stuff from DD1, but theres something nice about 'spoiling' the 2nd one, as soon enough they'll be in hand me downs for the next few years.
