I really need to deal with hair removal down there.

Is it still not ok to use hair removal creams? I am too much of wimp when it comes to waxing.

I'm having this dilema too... only thing is not sure i can get round my bump to do the cream :(

Will be watching for advice.

Iggly · 31/10/2011 16:24

I think you can use creams - just a case of whether you'd react or not. So do patch test first?

BeachLover26 · 31/10/2011 16:34

I've avoided them the whole pregnancy as I'm sure I read somewhere that you shouldn't because they're one of those many things that is unable to be tested,as who'd allow themselves to be a guinea pig when pregnant! I resorted to a razor and a mirror, and am just hoping baby arrives before I need to do it again, as it was not an easy task.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 31/10/2011 19:11

god really? I've been using them all pregnancy because waxing gave e a rash last time. However, I have booked myself in for a Brazilian at 39weeks like last time because it's so much easier to keep yourself clean afterwards!

Seriously, pop a few paracetmol and get waxed, quicker, cleaner, easier and somebody else does it for you!

MrBloomsNursery · 31/10/2011 19:19

I've used Nair twice since getting pregnant on my legs. I think it should be okay, I used it when pregnant with DD too.

hairylights · 31/10/2011 19:36

I think you are all weird! Wink

Velvetcu · 31/10/2011 20:19

I waxed but a word of warning re brazilians - I found that because I had lots of discharge I got really sore not having any hair down there! Also, I had my baby 2 weeks ago and have been very sore with stitches etc and definitely would not have wanted to deal with any sort of regrowth I.e. itching or ingrown hairs.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 31/10/2011 21:19

good point about regrowth - and I guess I'm assuming I won't need stitches again. But to be honest when I get waxed I don't get ingrown hairs as much as shaving or using cream (exfoliate, exfoliate exfoliate)

kiki22 · 31/10/2011 21:55

TMI alert but i tried the razor and mirror and would not recommend it unless you have nerves od steel! beachlover you are a brave brave woman.

Going for the brazilian me thinks

btw why are we all wierd?

flyingcloud · 02/11/2011 11:23

Well I think it's fine to use creams having done a bit of googling:

annekins · 02/11/2011 11:51

I knew I married the right man when he very carefully and delicately (much more delicately than I would) performed a serious amount of lady garden topiary (!!) for me the other day, and seems to have done a very good job!!

I think creams are fine, I just don't use them as they all smell and my sense of smell has gone mad since I've been pg.

Broody1976 · 02/11/2011 11:55

Me too annekins, my DH did some gardening for me before our holidays and again the other week.

Don't know about everyone else by my lady garden has been "flourishing" while I've been preggers and it's soooooo not something I'm used to.

Witchofthenorth · 02/11/2011 16:57

No creams!? My fanjo, legs and pits have been getting liberal applications throughout and I am now 31 weeks. In fact shall be defluffing this evening.......why no creams?Confused

pregnantmimi · 03/11/2011 01:01

Glad I read this I stoped shaving down there as couldnt see over bump and cut myself twice and thought sod it. Wanted to have a brazilian so all clean and sorted down there for birth but reading your post velvitcu has made me wonder if should just leave it as would hate to be all sore and itchy with regrowth. So use to shaving thou the hair really annoying me dont know hat to do. Still do armpits but started to stop bothering with legs too. Feel hairy, spotty and put 3 stone on too oh well it will be worth it and looking forward to not looking like a hairy blob.xx

arista · 03/11/2011 12:45

Hair removal creams should not be used it is in the books given to you by the midwife it says it penetrate your skin and is a big no no during pregnancy. I used it when I was pregnant with my daughter now 4 she is fine. This time I did used it once at about 12 weeks but after reading it should not be used I have decided it is not worth taking any chance. (by the way I am 28 weeks pregnant) now.

hairylights · 03/11/2011 18:02

Can I just ask a question because I'm intersted. Do people really think that having a brazillian/trim or whatever is important for birth? Do you really think that the midwives/doctors care? and does it matter to you?

I ask because someone at work Confused told me I might want to consider a wax 'for the birth' which made me think WTF on a lot of levels 1. why does a colleague think that's an ok thing to say to me and 2. no-one actually surely gives a dam what your fanjo hair looks like when your fanjo is stretched to buggery and there's a person emerging from it?

I am asking in all seriousness.

Of course, everyone has the right to do what they want with their own ladygarden, but I'm really fascinated by all this 'tidy fanjo for the birth' thing.

hairylights · 03/11/2011 18:04

kiki it was a kind of joke (the weird thing) (see above post because I am fascianted with the idea of people wanting a tidy fanjo for the birth.

My username used to be hairytriangle (actually named after a patch of hair on my back) so I was being humorous (or not, depending on your perspective)

Before I get flamed, I am not taking the mick, I'm just fascinated - should I start an AIBU thread or has it been done to death?

Witchofthenorth · 03/11/2011 18:18

I like a tidy fanjo all the time personally but def for after the birth, having to wear pads quite frankly gives me the boak and double boak at the thought of bloody pubes.

Sorry if that's a bit TMI Blush

Also, the rate my hairy bits are growing I don't think baby would be able to fight it's way out if I didn't veet..in fact I would need to style it perhaps a couple of kirby grips and a plait?

As for you work colleague, I tend to say things like that but only to people I know won't be offended.

pregnantmimi · 03/11/2011 18:23

witchofthenorth your right about bloody pubes never thought of that anyone else had a wax before and wasnt sore after birth?

bushymcbush · 03/11/2011 18:23

I'm with hairylights.

Planning to live up to my username. Certainly did the first time.

Witchofthenorth · 03/11/2011 18:37

I fookin love your name :o brill!

Witchofthenorth · 03/11/2011 18:42

A bit too much of a coward for a wax though, will stick to my industrial size bottle of veet/nair (other hair removal creams are available)

Also don't quite understand why they shouldn't be used while pregnant, surely anything absorbed into the skin is not going to turn your baby into a 5 eyed alien? Is it a bit like 40% of the stuff they you should not do while pregnant, but I still do Blush FWIW I am on number 4 and haven't killed my children yet :o Wink

squidink · 03/11/2011 20:16

I'm a die hard fan of the Brazalian. Only 11 weeks at the moment and not had a wax since I found out for fear it might be harmful somehow - this is my first pregnancy and I'm pretty clueless. Is a wax ok at any stageof pregnancy?

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 03/11/2011 20:31

am with witchofthenorth, don't really care what other people think of my nether regions but I hate being hairy and especially during my period let alone after birth when you can be bleeding for weeks, just feels a lot cleaner, easier to keep clean and I'm not exactly going to pop to the beauty salon after the birth am I?!

Wax is fine at any stage of pregnancy - I've just found my skin is a lot more sensitive (and also hair growth in general is maximised) so have suffered from rashes so have been using cream instead, but am booking in for a brazilian at 39 weeks because even if I go 10 days over again at least the hair won't have grown back.

roseum · 03/11/2011 21:12

squidink - the beautician I go to said they won't wax in the first trimester - I got the impression this was more an insurance thing than an actual risk, but don't quote me on that!

Certainly when I asked my midwife about waxing (after 1st trimester), she said it would be fine to do so, but might hurt more as skin more sensitive. I have to say I didn't notice any difference pain-wise when I got my legs done recently (don't get more than legs and bikini line done as too much of a wuss).

I am thinking of having a major trim while I can still more or less see the relevant bits (29wks) as don't want the baby fighting out through a thicket! After that will have to get DH to keep things in order!
