Am I going to get shouted at for not gaining weight?

This morning, at 15wks PG, both my iPhone apps told me I should have noticed some weight gain by now, and would be getting so my clothes dont fit.

This really isnt the case for me at all - I lost over a stone in the first weeks. Now, even though im eating better, I'm hovering around the same lower weight - 1/2 lbs either way.

I have my next MW appointment next week, which will show (if she weighs me) that I weigh significantly less than I did at my booking in appointment 2 months ago.

I was a size 12, so not particularly big/small to start with.

Is there a cut off point where a lack of weight gain becomes "an issue"?

I'm 37 + 5 and have never been weighed apart from at the booking in appointment. I guess they will weigh you and talk to you about it if you mention you are concerned?

Apart from at booking in I was never weighed during either of my pregnancies. I lost weight during my second-not through dieting, just healthier eating. it was never an issue.

Thats a relief, I just feel with all the other things I have to worry about from my last PG (GBS, extreme low BP-turning rapidly into pre eclampsia) I didnt want another thing to have to be constantly checked up on.

Thank you ladies.

Hi

As the other posters have already said i was never weighed apart from at the intial appt, as the pregnancy progressed they seemed to always measure the length of your bump to see if you are expanding at an appropiate rate. Weight gain through pregnancy is different for everyone.

I'm 31 weeks today. Never been weighed except at my booking in appointment at 10 weeks.

I had put on weight (I think) between when I was week 3 and week 10 (9lbs) as I was on holiday from what was week 3 to week 5 and came back bloated as hell (not realising that I was pregnant).

I was 12 stone 7lbs at week 10 and now at week 31, I am 12 stone 8lbs. I did have issues with food (especially meat) up until week 19 and hardly ate, so actually lost weight rather than gained it I think.

I wouldn't worry as there's plenty of time to gain weight (even for me) and my MW certainly was not concerned. As long as baby is growing and healthy, it doesn't matter.

no, i lost about a stone and a half in early pregnancy due to hyperemesis and now 20 weeks and haven't really put any back on. at my booking appt my bmi was 18 which was picked up as low but haven't been weighed since and no ones mentioned it since.

I'm in the US and have been weighed constantly, but they never seem very interested in the results. I only put on a pound up to 14 or 15 weeks - I think that's pretty common.

melliebobs · 30/10/2011 17:43

you wont get told off. In fact at my 16 week appointment I didn't even get weighed!!!!!

I'm 24 weeks today and I haven't gained anything. I'm still at my pre-pregnancy weight. I lost a little to start off with but even so I thought i'd be heavier.

Xmasbaby11 · 30/10/2011 19:03

I've never been weighed since the initial (12 week) scan, and I'm 32 weeks now. At that point I had lost weight due to morning sickness. I don't think they bother unless you look like you are too thin / huge.

Purplebuns · 31/10/2011 09:05

I had lost weight and they weren't bothered. However, I have put on 11lbs now at 21 weeks though!

TeWihara · 31/10/2011 09:16

I've had my weight checked once post booking in, but only because I was flagged as low BMI and want a homebirth.

In my first pregnancy I lost a lot of weight in the first trimester due to sickness and still managed to put on three stone by the end! I think your iPhone app is probably worrying you unnecessarily, MWs don't pay all that much attention to weight gain these days. There's no harm in checking with your MW at your next appointment though.

Oeisha · 31/10/2011 18:35

Unless you were underweight/low BMI in the first place, they aren't going to worry. My BMI was 27, so just in the 'fatty' catagory. I'm now 28+5 and now a massive 1/2-1lb up on pre-pg weight, with no HG or even MS all that bad (mainly an evening puker)...bloods always come back fine. Baby's measuring totally normal too.
They will not routinely weigh you at your MW appointments, but may ask about diet. Eat healthily and exercise moderatly and you'll be fine. If utterly paranoid like I was then, well, talk to you MW.

littlestressy · 01/11/2011 09:48

Try not to worry too much about what your iPhone app says should be happening, remember that every woman is different. Some women put on lots of weight in pregnany and some don't. I lost weight in the first trimester through nausea, not liking any food etc. I have only been weighed once at my booking in appointment.
I mentioned to my MW that I was concerned my bump was too small/I hadn't gained much weight. She measured my bump, had a feel and told me I was absolutely fine. So if you are concerned, talk to your MW.

HattiFattner · 01/11/2011 09:51

i weighed less at 22 weeks than I did at conception, as had v bad morning sickness. AFter that I gained about a kilo a week. I was HUGE.
