Hi all. I have a vague recollection of having a similar issue after I had ds1. For the last few nights I have been waking up absolutely soaked through. Last night it felt as though someone had dipped me in a bath after being in bed for 3 hours. It's horrid!
I'm a bit chilly when I go to bed so I have my duvet over me (room is right temp for the new bub, I feel the cold quite a lot), but it's not the covers that are doing this to me as it is sweating to the extreme.
Like I said, I think I did have this after I had DS but I can't remember how long it lasted for and how I delt with it. So, any tips on what I can do to make it more bearable?

I'm 3 weeks postnatal & have been having exactly the same - I recall the same with my previous 2 babies too. The first 2 weeks were the worst, its now beginning to tail off luckily. Don't think there is much you can do - its just all the excess fluid you were carrying leaving your body. Shouldn't last too much longer (I hope!).

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 30/10/2011 12:26

I think it's a hormone called prolactine (not sure of spelling). Something to do with BF. If you're FF, bang goes my theory Grin

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 30/10/2011 12:29

I should've said it's something to do with milk production as that early on the milk is still being produced whether you are or not BF. Hope that makes more sense.

melliebobs · 30/10/2011 12:49

There was something on one of my pregnancy apps that mentioned after birth you wee and sweat more as its natures way of getting all the excess fluid out of your body. But bloomin eck i didn't think it would be that much!

ASuitableGirl · 30/10/2011 12:52

I had this a few days after DS was born. Thought I had flu or something when I woke up. I had had a lot of water retention and think it all came out at once tbh.

Thanks ladies. I am bf and have loads of milk at the mo. I'm not weeing that much (though maybe it just feels that way as I practically lived on the loo at the end of my pregnanacy!). I just couldn't believe how wet I was this morning. My hair has gone curly, like it does if I'm in a humid climate, it's that bad!

Ok when DH comes home I think he's changing the sheets!

Oh and hi Icrave, we were on the same ELCS thread! I didn't reach my planned date (4 days early) but thankfully went into labour slowly so still had my CS and it was a pretty good experiece even though it was technically an EMCS. Hope yourswent well too x

Actually, I also meant to ask;
I've had a dull headache for a few days, anyone else had this? I'm guessing it could be due to dehydration so I've trying to drink lots.

Hi - I'm having the same with ds4. It's yuk - my straight hair is even turning curly in the mornings with the sweat. Had it with ds1 but not 2 or 3 strangely. I do tend to have loads of milk and with ds1 mw said it was 'milk fever' whatever that is. Ds4 is now 2 weeks and I can't wait for it to stop. I get really cold with it too - it's like cold sweat and clamminess.

pecanpie · 30/10/2011 14:15

I had the same with DD1 and DD2 - was hoping that having DC3 close to winter would make things a bit more bearable, but I guess we'll have the heating on! I didn't just suffer at night though and it went on for quite some time - DD2 was born end Feb and I remember walking somewhere on a really hot day and feeling really disgusting even in an airconditioned room.

I have also heard that it's something to do with getting rid of retained water, but doesn't make it any less unpleasant. Just happy to hear it's something other people go through too (sorry!!).

It's yet another ting that I'm using to try and persuade DH that pregnancy and childbirth (even a CS), and the aftermath are NOT a walk in the park...!

I'm just under 5 weeks post birth and had this too.

It was horrid but the worst of it more or less went away about a week ago.

trixymalixy · 30/10/2011 14:25

I had this too, but I think a contributing factor was that I was sleeping on those maternity mats so I didn't bleed all over the bed.

peggyblackett · 30/10/2011 14:32

I had this, and will probably again when dd2 is born. Eugh.

Mine lasted a couple of weeks, I found sleeping on a towel helped - absorbent and easy to change in the night.

MrBloomsNursery · 30/10/2011 15:37

I think it's just your body's way of getting rid of all the excess fluid it has retained during pregnancy.

My sister told me it would happen, but I didn't believe her. It was just horrible and lasted for about 1 week for me. The first 2 days were the worst. I noticed on the second day, my fingers and feet went skinny again, like they had deflated!

BreeVanDerTramp · 30/10/2011 21:29

I had this as well for weeks due to BF I bought an extra strength anti-perspirant (Sure although Dove do one as well it was around £5) and it worked a treat, no idea why as my whole body used to be soaking before but just using that under arms seemed to make a big difference, have used it ever since. Who says motherhood isn't glam Wink
