Resless Legs keeping me awake - is there ANYTHING I can do??

Hello ladies

I'm currently 13 wks and being driven INSANE by lack of sleep due to my stupid Restless Legs Syndrome. I suffered from it from time to time before I was pregnant, but mostly Ferrous Sulphate tablets kept it at bay. I checked with my doc who is happy for me to keep taking the FS along with my current vits, which already have plenty of iron in them.

It seems worse than ever though, apparently it's not uncommon in pregnancy, but there doesn't seem to be anything I can do. I was awake for about 3 hours last night laying there trying to keep still, which is impossible.

It makes me want to cry with frustration! I'm like a zombie today due to lack of sleep!

Has anyone else suffered with this and found anything helpful?

I absolutely share your pain and frustration!! I'm further along than you, 37 weeks, and started suffering with restless legs and arms about a month ago. It has been playing havoc with my sleep. I have only found that being as relaxed as Possible helps - I've been listening to relaxing music in bath with candles and oils, listening to natal hypnotherapy really helps me sometimes too. Also, if I go to bed in the slightest bit hungry this seems to make it worse, last night I had to get up and eat a banana at 4am and that helped!! Do you know what though, the horrible thing is sometimes nothing helps!!! My sympathies go out to you it really is horrid! Lack of sleep ain't good x

Glass of milk, tonic water?

Tonic water? Really?

I had this with my last pregnancy, after a bit of googling and working out what nutrients might help (I have completely forgotten what they were now though - other than magnesium and possibly iron and calcium?).

I discovered that having a warm bath, followed by a banana, glass of milk and dose of floradix about 45 minutes to an hour before bed really helped.

I was sceptical, but was willing to try anything after not being able to sleep for weeks and it really did work.

I keep doling out this advice and am worried that people will think that I am a complete weirdo as a result, but here goes.

Orgasm.

Seems to direct the unwanted energy away from my legs. Has worked for me in two pregnancies.

Tonic water definitely.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! We have some unopened tonic water left over from a cocktail party (remember those) ages ago, so I may have to give it a try!

BeeBread - I'm sure that my husband will prefer your suggestion! Also worth a punt. [hsmile]
