Sorry I pressed ok before had finished! Anyway I'm 13 weeks and my back is killing me already has been for the past couple of weeks. Exercise doesn't seem to help neither does being lazy. Anyone else going through the same thing? Im 24 and fairly fit, I escaped morning sickness and have been punished with this. I've tried paracetamol and a wheat bag and neither work. Please help :) x

Sorry have no advice but I do have sympathy! I am suffering but it's soley in my butt cheek! Really painful! I am 20weeks and have had it for a while. I think it's just one of those things we have to put up with I'm afraid!

I find it comes and goes. Night time seems to be the worse for me, hope it improves for you.

I really would do something about it if you are really getting uncomfortable. Can you get the midwife to refer you to a physio? The attitude of some people is that it is the baby pressing on the nerve but at 13 weeks the baby is a bit small for that - as a result it is more likely to be movement in your pelvis. With my first pregnancy at about 25 weeks I could barely walk and you need to make sure that doesnt happen. Having to get dh up in the night to help me off the toilet was a definite low point! In terms of paracetamol for it to have any effect you need to take the full dose for several days, not just the odd tablet.

That said I was a bit sore early on this time but now at 30 weeks it is actually ok and it was never as bad so it might just stay how it is or get better. I have had acupuncture monthly but that of course may just be coincidence!

I have the same. Making sure you sit properly in a decent chair can help a bit. I have been referred to physio but haven't had an appointment yet. Resting it definitely doesn't help me. I find it gets worse as the day goes on, it's fine in the morning usually.

hiya, I agree with brettgirl and I hate to put it to you... but SPD perhaps rather than sciatica? I got SPD this time at 10 weeks and in retrospect I had it in my last pregnancy but I hadn't realised because SPD is a rather misleading name - you think pubis = front. But my pain is down the joint of the pelvis on the right hand side of my spine. If you look at a skeleton you can see around the back of the pelvis there are 2 "cracks" - one of those is done in for me. :(

Anyway, I would recommend getting to a physio asap - and throw money at the problem. We had a thread here the other day about it - I'm now 24 weeks and I'm pretty healthy.

I have to walk striding out, arms swinging and I've had to ditch my shoulder-bag for a cross-the-body bag. Carrying my son up & down stairs is a total no-no, but what can you do eh? Confused

I've gone from not being able to cross the room without my legs giving way to hopefully (if we stop being lazy!) going skiing this afternoon. :)

No exercise does not help.

Take a trip to Midwife for sure. I had it and was off for 2 months, didnt go out at all.
If it is sciatica, then keep your knees together at all times, dont walk like a crab and basically you have to rest.

Does seem a little early like ladies have said, but you never know. I did go to a Physio, spent £40 on a belt and never used it and total waste of time. I am a dance teacher and she said sometimes your pelvis opens up so much the nerves then hit on baby and until it moves from breech to non breech it will continue to hurt. Hubby looked at my tummy 1 day and said it looked totally different and I could move without pain, although I was really soar felt really bruised for a week or so.

Def get it looked at, no matter what it is and let us know!

Thanks for all your comments. I have no idea what SPD is/ stands for though x
