Partial previa at 20U/S, kicks low down in groin worried just what should 'not'

Hi its been a few weeks since scan. The registra told us not to have intercourse which we hadn't been anyway. At the time I was more bothered by his forceful questionning about my desire to have a section, as I had been very anxious about from the start of pg.

Backstory I spoke to various friends attended a session with the specialist MW and reached a point where I was calm about my decision and felt reassured to go ahead - so was annoyed the following day when he was like this eventhough I told him the above.

Anyway...last week I have felt kick really low down in groin as if its just inside 'the doorway' so to speak which has had me worried slightly in case it causes any damage to placenta/bleeding - this prompted me to read up about this and the previa. To date I have not had any bleeding and felt fantastic. I have been very busy doing gardening, sorting out storage cupboards, baking doing - general housework inc carrying hoove upstairs.

To my recollection the registra never said to refrain from heavy lifting, bending over or exervicise - normally swim and have very light antenatal program from instructor at gym. Its only because ive been so busy having mum visit, two playdates, general half term activities I have not been to gym. NOW ive read that I should be resting and not doing any heavy housework and while i havnt had any bleeding and feel very well physically I feel guilty I may have been doing too much that potnetially is not good for my situation.

What should I be doing/not be doing?

The registra did spend a lot of time telling me about the risks if the placenta has attached to scar tissue which I have from previous surgery and complications during a section because of this, but not about do's/don'ts

Other nagging worry is ive just weighed myself this AM and I am 2lb lighter than when I conceived, I knew I hadnt put any weight on overall as I lost some during first trimester and I was overweight at conception so seemed ok as was on track. 20 week scan showed her measurements to be bang on average. Sorry dont know if this is relevant.

I don't know if this helps, but I was told my placenta is covering the cervix at my 20wk scan. I asked my GP about what I should/shouldn't do having read some horror stories on the internet. He said not to worry, that they normally move, not to carry heavy things (which you shouldn't be doing anyway apparently), but other than that to carry on as normal. The only thing he said that was different is that if I do bleed (and like you, I have been fine), then to get to hospital. Nothing about not having sex, although I have been too nervous to try!! Hope this helps.

On my 20week scan the placenta was covering the cervix. In terms of advice I've been told that I must urgently report any bleeding/contractions to my midwife/hospital. I've had some light bleeding but I've not been told to stop doing anything apart from sex. I have been told that should I bleed again then I will end up having to take it easy - the leaflet I was given mentions being hospitalised from 34 weeks but that is only if the placenta stays where it is. Statistically speaking it should move.

From what I have read you are at greatest risk of bleeding in the third trimester when the lower part of the uterus is preparing for labour. The bleeding is caused by a change in your uterus - you won't bleed because the baby is kicking the placenta - babies no doubt kick their placenta's all the time.

If your placenta remains low lying you will have a section. I wouldn't worry about the registrar at the end of the day it will be a consultant who will be in charge of your care should your placenta stay low.

I know it's very hard not to worry as I am constantly but the most likely outcome is that on your next scan the placenta will have moved.

90% of low lying placentas do move.

I have one knocking at the entrance door at my 20 wk scan. I'm now 30 weeks + 4 and have had no bleeding. You should be offered another scan somewhere between 32 and 37 weeks. I have mine on 9th Dec when I will be 36 weeks + 5. I thought it was late but MW said that if I had one at 32 weeks, I would be offered another one at 36/37 weeks so my scan just eliminates the first one.

Try not to worry. I was too at first and scared to have sex. DEFINITELY do not google it - the horror stories are not the norm or representative of the majority.
