Hi,

I'm 18 weeks with no 2 and still not getting any movements and just wondering whether u should start to worry?

If I recall I wasn't very early feeling kicks with ds but I can't remember when I felt them. Possibly after 20 weeks?

I'm a size 16 so have a wee bit of padding and I know this won't be helping but just wondered if anyone else was this late feeling kicks with a second pg?

I should be worried, not u Blush

That's the extra padding giving me fat fingers! Grin

Hi if it helps, I am on no4 and this time have only just started feeling movements at almost 17 weeks!

Speak to your midwife though rather than worrying x

Biscuitsandtea · 25/10/2011 20:41

Won't my mw just tell me to come back in a couple of weeks if there is still nothing?

I didn't feel anything (and even then what I felt was probably my imagination very faint movements) at 20-21 weeks. But I have an anterior placenta. Do you know where your placenta is lying?

Biscuitsandtea · 25/10/2011 20:45

They never mentioned where it was at the 12 week scan - do you think they would have mentioned if it was anterior?

OP posts:
banana87 · 25/10/2011 20:57

No it's usually the 20 week scan that they tell you. When is your next scan?

Biscuitsandtea · 25/10/2011 20:59

2 weeks on Friday..... Seems like such a long way away!

I just seem to have been in this post-nausea pre-movement nothingness for ages SadSad. If it wasn't for a bump, I'd be wondering if I had just been mistaken about being pg......

Biscuit, they may be able to use a doppler to listen to the heartbeat for reassurance mine warned me at my 16 week check that it is sometimes difficult to find but she got it straight away!

We cant win can we, cant wait to get over all those early symptoms then in limbo between 12 and 20 weeks! Grin

Oeisha · 25/10/2011 21:08

I didn't get specifically told my placenta was anterior, they usually wait til the 20wk scan as they have a habit of moving. However, it WAS metioned in the notes...have a look.
It's not unusual not to have felt anything yet from what I can tell (DC1 here) but if you're worried, talk to you MW.

Biscuitsandtea · 25/10/2011 21:18

Thank you - they did do the heartbeat at my 16 week appt, I just don't know if my mw would even bother seeing me. Mind you I guess all I can do is phone and give her a chance to prove me wrong Smile.

Will check my notes and see if there is any mention of my placenta....

Do get it checked out if you are worrying, but I hadn't felt anything by this stage with DD2, and actually felt movements later than with DD1.

seaweed74 · 25/10/2011 21:23

Hi, with DD1 I felt kicks from 16 weeks and not fluttering but full on boots that my DP could also feel! With DD2 (currently 38+5 weeks) I wasn't sure if I could feel her move before I had my 20 week scan. And during the scan she could be seen kicking and I could feel nothing! Placenta in good position. Think DD2 is just bit daintier in her movements. She doesn't react to music whereas her big sister went crazy dancing to some very peculiar types of music :)

RickGhastley · 25/10/2011 21:23

Am 25 weeks with DC2 and felt no movement till some time after my 20 week scan, I can't remember when exactly but do remember the sonographer telling me not to worry.

I have a low lying placenta, not sure if that might have been a factor?

.

Biscuitsandtea · 25/10/2011 21:46

Thank you - it is reassuring to hear others the same. Checked notes from scan (such as they are Hmm) no mention of where the placenta is.

Am sat here tonight debating if any / every little wobble might either be bean, or perhaps my dinner!!!

Might phone the mw if still nothing by next week.....

Had same experience with second pregnancy. Just about kept worrying under control till 20wk scan to find the same anterior placenta issue mentioned above. Was strange seeing baby kicking away on the monitor and I couldn't feel a thing. Obviously if you're properly worried then a visit to the midwife would help. I was told it's only cause for concern if you've felt definite movements which then disappear.

happenstance · 26/10/2011 08:09

Hi i'm 18 weeks with DC2 and have had nothing :(, when MW checked heartbeat at 16 weeks she said she was finding it hard to find beat all she could get was my placenta (she found it in the end), so i assume its anterior wont know till mid november,

not trying to get too worried but if you are just ask midwife to check heartbeat

Biscuitsandtea · 26/10/2011 08:13

Ah Happen, the mw struggled to find the heartbeat at my 16 week appt too but I put this down to the fact she was a trainee. So my mw was there but letting her get on with it, so it could have been inexperience or a placenta in the way?

Think I will try to hold out for the scan....

I presume you aren't more or less likely to have anterior placenta based on previous pg? Last time it wasn't but I guess that would make no odds this time?

No problems with last pregnancy but, and here's the sciancy, bit i have a retroverted uterus, which righted itself with DC1 before my 12 week scan, but this time it's persistant apparently [hconfused] which has meant my scans have had to be internal [hhmm] so i did wonder if that may be the reason, but thats probably wishful thinking lol

I'm going to wait and see what scan says and just putting it to the back of my mind for now :)

Biscuitsandtea · 26/10/2011 10:31

I've made a mw appt for today - been getting cramps too for the past week or so so bought I'd ring and see what they said and they told me to nip in later and be dopplered so that's good Smile

I hardly felt my little man move when pregnant and as mentioned above was due to having my placenta at the front. Hope this is what it is for you too as I also got very worried about never feeling him move around.

thejaffacakesareonme · 26/10/2011 12:35

I'm pregnant with DC3 and am now 20 weeks. I haven't felt this one move until much later than the first two. I think I've only really started to feel movement in the last week or so. WHen I told the midwife at the 16 week appointment she said that anything between 16 weeks and 23 weeks was normal.

MarathonMama · 26/10/2011 15:00

What does anterior placenta mean? Do you have to have a CS? I'm 20 weeks on fri and haven't been feeling anything either. Not worried though as heard baby's heart on my Doppler last night.

Secondtimelucky · 26/10/2011 15:01

Marathon - it just means that the placenta is at the front, not the back. It acts as a cushion between you and the baby, hence feeling movements later. It's a low placenta (where it actually obstructs the cervix) the means a section, not anterior. HTH.

MarathonMama · 26/10/2011 17:48

Very helpful, thanks Secondtime! The thought of a CS scares the wits out of me...

LittleStranger · 26/10/2011 19:05

Hope midwife was able to reassure you today Biscuits.
