Just wondering who's had the flu jab and did you feel ok afterwards?

TIA

I had mine a couple of weeks ago at 32.5 weeks.
Felt a bit under the weather for a couple of days afterwards (basically, had some muscle aches, was a bit more tired, and was feeling hot/cold intermittently, but no fever).
Have no regrets about getting it, and will also ask my DH to have one, to make sure he does not bring the virus home...

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 24/10/2011 16:59

I dont think I have flu, just a bad cold and vomiting, no fever at all, but very achey all over and exhausted.
I dont regret it though, even if it is a reaction. I'd rather be ill now than chance being VERY ill later in pregnancy.
I have googled it and seen that it cant be a reaction, I'm just a bit dubious having had the same "illness" after the swine flu jab last time, and not really being "ill" for the rest of the pregnancy...
As I've seen though, so many people get flu and colds at the time of year that the jab is given that theres no real way to prove causality.

My armed absolutely killed after it. And the next morning for about an hour I couldn't get out of bed. All good now though and glad I had it.

I had mine at 30 weeks, felt a bit achey and fluey the next morning but nothing like as bad as actual flu, so worth it IMO.

And yes to having it in your right arm as you should sleep on your left side when pg.

lindsell · 24/10/2011 17:11

I had mine a few weeks ago at 9wks - last year I got flu really badly and did when I was pg with Ds so decided not to risk it this year.

Immediately after having the jab I felt dizzy/strange for about half
an hour, the following morning I woke up full of cold - sneezing, sniffing, achey arm, feeling rough (on top of usual 1st trimester roughness!) but it only lasted 3-4 days. Def nothing like normal flu just like having a normal cold ime.

Kayano · 24/10/2011 17:13

I'm not having it. I refuse.

I'm terrified of needles and I have been jabbed enough Sad

ciwi · 24/10/2011 17:26

I had mine last wednesday, sore arm at first and then from Thursday night till today have had a heavy cold. I think it's probably, coincidental though because everyone I know has had a cold recently so they are definitely going round. the info given out by my gp surgery is that it can protect the baby for up to 6 months after it is born too.

Dutchie77 · 24/10/2011 17:43

Had mine two weeks ago. Felt a bit under the weather for some days and baby was a bit more quiet for two days (scary). My colleague had exactly the same. But now I feel all fine again!

mashpot · 24/10/2011 18:01

I had mine last Monday at 36 weeks and by Friday had developed a horrid cold which I am stuck with. May be coincidence but I'm not sure.

MissRee · 24/10/2011 18:05

Had mine on saturday and have a very red, sore and hot to touch patch on my arm since Sad

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 24/10/2011 18:05

Oo, quite a few "coincidences" here too!

nearlymumof3 · 24/10/2011 18:22

Had the jab on Friday, I'm 17 weeks. Had no reaction at all aside from an achy arm. Have reacted before but this one seems better.

Think I'll get DH to have it too.

phlossie · 24/10/2011 19:43

Flu jab isn't a 'live' vaccine. Live vaccines carry some of the disease that your being vaccinated against so that your body builds up a natural immunity. So if you have the flu jab, you're not going to contract flu or flu-like symptoms from it.

Also, it's been done for several years with no problems showing for babies or their mums, so it's pretty safe. And it's much safer than getting flu. Pregnant women are more at risk of catching it because of lowered immunity, and can suffer more serious complications - especially with H1N1. Also, a signifcant raise in your body's core temperature (from a fever) can be very dangerous for your baby.

I'm getting mine! I phoned the GP surgery and booked an appointment. The vaccine changes every year because the virus mutates and is different every year, and it lasts in you for about 3 months. So if you get it in the next couple of weeks it should see you through winter.

aethelfleda · 24/10/2011 20:00

Had mine, no problems at all apart from vaguely achey arm for 2 or 3 days.

notcitrus · 25/10/2011 10:00

Had mine yesterday morning - no side effects at all! I had a bit of a sniffle to start with though.
