Sick of this pain and worry

4 weeks ago, at 14+3 weeks, I began getting horrendous cramps in my lower back, back passage and lower abdomen. It felt like terrible trapped wind, but whenever I did break wind Blush it hurt very much just before but didn't really change anything. Except my dignity in front of dp!! Went to A&E, nothing. Saw a doc, nothing. Felt embarrassed at my obsessiveness. Started bleeding after 3 days, and went to the EPU, who pulled out (bleurgh) lots of clots, but after scan thankfully found nothing wrong. However, a threatened miscarriage was diagnosed, which I think is normal after pain and bleeding. After a few days the pain and bleeding subsided and I felt well after about 2 weeks.

So, back at work last week all felt great. Then on Saturday, at 18+1 weeks, the whole thing started again. Horrendous spasms in my lower back with sharp pain in my lower abdomen. Feel constipated but am not. Can't sleep for the pain, paracetamol doesn't touch it. Hot water bottle helps a bit. Can feel baby kicking so I know I shouldn't worry but just can't help it.

This is my 5th pregnancy, mc'd last Christmas. Can anyone shed any light on this? Has anyone experienced the same? Should I just shut up and put up?! Is it because I've eaten so many biscuits?? Wink

Sorry for TMI by the way...

I think you should get back to the doc - don't feel embarrassed or like you're being a nuisance, because that's what they're there for, and a good doctor won't be bothered if you're there every week worrying about something as important as a pregnancy.

One thing that I did wonder... do you have piles? Sorry, I know they're not nice to talk about but I have them Blush and I get the "constipated-but-not" feeling, and there's also a lot of blood. Plus they effing hurt! Or maybe your back passage is spasming (if that's a word) for some reason???

hi spell, not much help but ive had the exact same thing! friday went for my 12 week scan, everything was fine and afterwards went shopping feeling rather happy about seeing my baby, suddenly (in starbucks of all places) got back pain and pain in my bum and across my lower abdomen i thought it was bad wind/constipation and managed to get home, had a long bath to ease the pain and when i got out i noticed i was bleeding like a heavy period (sorry tmi) naturally terrified i went to hospital and they diagnosed threatened miscarriage, today had a scan and baby is fine but they found a bleed above the cervix. still diagnosed as threatened miscarriage, so now im like 'well what now?' the midwife said she couldn't predict what would happen. so im kinda stuck in limbo, do i pack away everything baby related so i dont have to look at it or do i carry on having girly natters about baby names? sorry i realise this is no help at all but just know that i feel your pain and there are others with the same thing ~hugs~ wishing you all the best

Thanks for answers ladies! No, Peaches I don't have piles but have been obsessively checking...! It seemed like exactly that, I was expecting it. Had them before and it's so uncomfortable isn't it [hwink]! Hope yours vanish soon...

Pixie, really feel for you, and hope all is well. From my experience, similar to yours, it will be. I know now that they see so many women with bleeding and pain that go on to have healthy babies, they can't predict really. So sit still, drink loads of water, which helps stop the cramps, and do nothing! I found it boring and frustrating but worth it. Have watched far too much Jeremy Kyle.

Well, the pain got so intense that by 2.30am this morning I was screaming in agony. DP took me to the out of hours unit (thankfully other 3DC were with their Dad) and to my surprise the doc found that I have a UTI that has spread to my kidneys. My wee had been fine, though annoyingly frequent and I had a temperature, which she said were classic signs, not everyone gets burning pain. So I've got antibiotics, which I've just chucked up owing to codeine on an empty stomach, still obsessively knicker-checking, still in pain but got fingers crossed for us both! Next time I go to that hospital I want it to be for my 20 week scan at a normal time!

When I wasn't pregnant I had a kidney infection and it sounds exactly as you described. Your kidneys are closer to your back and the pain through your back is very similar to what severe constipation would feel like. I'm surprised the first doctor didn't just test you for that. All you need to do is pee on a stick.

To be fair, my wee was bright yellow at the time, so knew something was up.

Had to stay in bed for a whole week to get through it.

Hope you feel better soon.x

Thanks, and you're right Crackers, this could probably have been avoided! I do feel some doctors and midwives have the sole aim of getting you out of their office as soon as possible. The doc last night said the pressure of the spasms on the cervix are probably what caused the bleeding last time round.

Am lying still, bored out of my head but determined to beat this so DP and I can finally enjoy this pregnancy! I hope it's dull and uneventful from now on.

Best wishes Smile

Quick update after my last post. I lost the baby that night, just slipped out. He was born alive and died in our hands. Loads of complications. Full investigation being carried out. Basically, ladies, if you feel something is wrong, it generally is. Go and get everything checked out and harangue them until you get proper help. I had an infection, if it had been addressed earlier I might still be pregnant today. Good luck, hope to be able to return here again soon. Sad

I've got shivers all the way down my spine, I feel for you and I hope ur ok, what a terrible thing that's happened.I'm 14+5, I've been having severe cramping period like pains for weeks and doctors keep fobbing me off, but u have rly made me think twice about walking away. I hope we see u on here again soon, my thoughts are with u! 'Big tight squeezy hugs'

Crosshair · 31/10/2011 11:24

Im very sorry for your loss. :( Wishing you a good recovery.

ShowOfHands · 31/10/2011 11:31

spellcheck, I'm so very, very sorry. What a terrible thing for you to go through. I hope you're being extremely well supported.

mumt1, please go back and ask for a good onceover. Some cramping can be normal as things stretch but untreated UTIs can cause terrible problems.

MiauMau · 31/10/2011 22:55

spellcheck I'm so sorry for your loss. As I was told by a paramedic when I was 11 weeks pregnant and crying because I was afraid to lose my baby "never be ashamed to call us we're here to help".
Who cares if we sound paranoid? We know our bodies and we know when something is wrong.
