Are babies of the same sex generally always bigger in subsequent pregnancies? DS was nearly 10lbs and I am now 32 weeks & a bit scared if it's another boy!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'll let you know in a few days!! Grin

DS was 10lb 4oz. This baby looks smaller on the scans and I don't know the sex. Lots of my friends have had smaller second babies though.

Oooh, how exciting bed!!! Do come back & let us know what you have. Did this pregnancy feel different! I hardly had any nausea with DS but was feeling awfully queasy till 17 weeks this time!!

Were your friends babies a different gender?

FWIW, my mum's babies got smaller each time.... 7 lbs 10oz, 6lbs 8oz, 5lbs 5 oz.

hayleysd · 24/10/2011 12:46

Ds1 was 6lb 3 (suspected iugr but turned out not)

Ds2 was 4lb 14 (iugr)

Induced both times so hard to compare but with ds2 I was only in labour 20 mins!

MrsHoolie · 24/10/2011 13:01

DD1 9lb 5oz
DS1 10lb 6oz

The scans said he would be a bigun.

We are both tall and DP was a 10lb baby.
Both labours ended in emcs but that wasn't because of their size.

I know many people who had the usual hideous 1st birth with an average sized baby and then a quick and easy birth with a much bigger baby the 2nd time.

Secondtimelucky · 24/10/2011 13:15

Not IME. DD2 was nearly a pound smaller than her big sister, despite being an extra day overdue.

I've never really understood worrying too much about size TBH. As far as I can tell (within normal limits) position, size of head and size of shoulders make a lot more difference than overall weight. Certainly once your pelvis has done it once women seem to find it a lot easier second time around.

Thanks, all good to hear!

No - all of my subsequent ones where smaller than the sibling of the same sex:

DS1 - 8lb 15oz and only 37 weeks!, DS2 - 8lb 6oz at 39 weeks
DD1 - 8lb 1oz, DD2 - 7lb 1oz (although had diabetes with this one, so was eating way less sugary stuff than with any of the others!)

I was also getting quite worried with DS2, as DS1 had been early and still pretty big. I could tell the moment he was born that he was smaller than DS1! All the births were fine, apart from the first (DD1), but she was induced anyway!

Dinosaurdrip · 25/10/2011 07:50

Ds1 9lb15 1/2 oz 2 days late
Ds2 9lb 10 oz 5 days late

Kayzr · 25/10/2011 07:52

Ds1 was 7lb 2oz

Ds2 was 10lb 5oz

LittleSquirt · 25/10/2011 17:31

Thanks everyone. So it sounds like babies of the same sex do tend to be bigger the second time around (overall) but that doesn't necessarily mean a nightmare birth which is very good to hear!! [hsmile]
