Antenatal screening / Test results too good (to be true??)

Hi there,

I've just heard back re me Antenatal screening tests for Down and Edward's syndrome.

Being 34, my risk pool is

1:319 for Downs
1:519 for Edwards

taking the blood and scan into consideration it's down to

1: 6372 for Downs and
1: 11753 for Edwards

Did someone has similar good results?

I'm not sure if this can be true ... it's seems far too good and I'm now worried, that he measured it wrong or that my blood was funny/ laboratory mixed it up.

Being 13+2 already, I'm really worried about redoing the test on-time if necessary.

Thx!

Thanks ive posted same same info hopefully someone will get back to me...

I havent slept in over 10 weeks, n last night i kept waking up seeing numbers - its a terrible feeling. We gotta decide and i cnt go thru 9 months of not knowing... I know im 1:100000 but theres a small risk isnt there.....

I actually woke up being sick this morning.

VFVF · 28/10/2011 09:57

This one's risk is 1:33,697. But I'm only 26 and this was done with combined screening.

DD was 1:6,000 and I was pregnant aged 24. This was done on nuchal measurement alone as they didn't offer combined screening back then.

I'd say your results are fairly reassuring.

Oh mum2b Sad I wish I could say something to stop you worrying.

You have fantastic odds, but you know that already.

I really hope you manage to get some comfort, I agree you can't go through your whole pregnancy feeling like this.

TheOriginalFAB · 28/10/2011 10:32

At 28 my risk for my age was 1 in 800. I refused all other tests. DS1 did not have Down Syndrome.

Mysecretumbrella · 28/10/2011 10:43

Oh dear - now I'm a bit worried. My results came back a few weeks ago saying "low risk" 1/300. Now this didn't strike me as low but I assumed it was because the test results didn't show any indicators so they had just reverted to the background risk for my age (35). Now I'm not so sure! But tbh it wouldn't make any difference as we wouldn't undergo any further testing anyway.

But has anyone else had this.. 1/300 classed as low??

KD0706 · 28/10/2011 11:18

I think they class you as low risk if the risk of miscarriage from an amnio is greater than your risk of having a downs baby.
Have a chat with your midwife if you're unsure and I'm sure she will clarify.

There's always something to worry about in pregnancy isn't there!

Dirtydishesmakemesad · 28/10/2011 11:41

The risk for my last baby was 1:25,000 but this time only year later so i am now 28 mrisk was 1:1000.

EmpressMatilda · 01/10/2012 20:44

I am all in a panic. Mine was 1:5219. I am 33, will be 34 by the time baby is born. Was very happy with this result but am now starting to panic as a friend of mine who was also same age and classed as low risk came out with 1:25,000 or similar. I hadn't realised the numbers could go that high. I see on this thread that actually they can.

DH and I are very worried about Downs. He has always stated that he absolutely couldn't cope with a Downs child (he knows someone who has one) and I know I couldn't do it on my own. It has been our great worry and obsession from day one. I am almost tempted just to go for the amnio anyway even though the MW presented our results as though we are pretty much home and dry.

Yes I'll be 30 years old at term. My weight is 68.6 kg, non smoker, non drinker. I got a risk factor of 1 in 100000. I too felt like it was too good to be true but feel incredibly thankful.

Values were as follows:
NT 1.7 mm
hCGb 0.88 MoM
PAPP-A 1.18 MoM

Best wishes to all you ladies waiting for results xx

Littleelffriend · 08/01/2016 15:16

This thread is from 2012. All those bumps are now planning their school applications Grin

Lozzle86 · 09/01/2016 00:16

Yeah there's lots of new bumps though now and mums asking the same questions that will be reading these posts (like me). I was searching to see if anyone had the same score as me and what the variations were.

Thought this thread was an interesting read. I'd been worried about getting my risk factor back and felt confused when I almost didn't believe it. Felt like I should be happy and leave it at that...but somehow couldn't instantly. Reassured me to see that I wasn't the only woman that felt that way.
