I'm 18 weeks with my first and I told myself I wasn't going to worry about this. However, over the last week or so everyone has been asking me if I've felt movement yet, and then looking a bit Hmm when I say no (these are people who have mostly had babies quite recently).

I definitely haven't had any flutters - I sometimes get bubbles of wind and think 'is this it?' but then it becomes clear that it was in fact wind on the way out, iykwim!

When did you first have definite movement? Had a scan about a week ago and baby was busting some serious moves then, but when should I expect to feel them?

Thanks!! Grin

I was 21 1/2 weeks before I felt any definite movement.

I was 18 weeks with number 1 and 15 weeks with this one! Perfectly normal that you havent felt anything yet :)

Most people say you feel sooner second time round, think thats true mostly. I'm now on no 3, and I felt the 1st one at about 17 weeks and the 2nd one not till about 19 or 20 weeks, likewise this time not till about 19 or 20 weeks.

And the line 'you'll know it when you feel it' is nonsense, you're not sure, still not sure, hmmm maybe, yes definitely this time, yep sure of it! thats how I find it, every time.

Also if you are busy you wont notice it so quickly. And the baby's personality makes a difference I think, you know 'get me out of here!' wallops, versus 'hey mam I love you!' taps.

And placentas posterior in all 3 cases with me so I didnt have that excuse. If you've a posterior placenta I'd say even 22 or 23 weeks isnt outragous...

Its normal not to feel movement yet with your first. They say 18-24 weeks so plenty of time yet. I hate the bit of pregnancy between getting the initial symptoms and feeling the baby kick. It is so reassuring when they kick.

I haven't read anyone elses posts, so apologies if I'm repeating, but I didn't feel anything definate until 22 or 23 weeks. At the 20 week scan baby was moving around like a mexican bean (to the point we had to go for a second scan as she couldn't complete all the checks) and I STILL couldn't feel anything even though I could clearly see the somersaults.

Once you do realise you can feel it, you can look back and see that at least some of the wind was in fact movement!!

I didn't feel a thing until 22 weeks and has took another about 3 weeks before i felt actual kicks, my baby seems to like to sit facing my back so get mostly boots to the bladder but the last 3 days have felt kicks that feel like he's kicking my bum so i think all his kicks have been aimed there n thats why i didn't feel the kicks very hard. U might just have an akward baby like me :)

So pleased to see this post, I'm 19 weeks and 3 days and still not felt anything... I can sometimes tell where the baby is laying but no movements to report. 20 week scan in just over a week so hoping all is well... So desperately want to feel some movement just for the reassurance!

around 20 weeks, maybe a bit later. Definitely just twitchy/squirmy for quite a while and not very noticeable.

IssyStark · 19/10/2011 20:22

I had an anterior placenta with my first (have one this time as well).

With my first I felt my first movememnt at 19w2d - I'd been stuck on a car journey with a full bladder and rushed to the loo as soon as we arrived at our friends. I felt baby tumble over as it suddenly had room again! However I then didn't feel it again until 21w and then another movement at 22w. I wasn't feeling regular movement every day until around 25w.

Moobee · 20/10/2011 04:30

I didn't have an anterior placenta but it was still 21 weeks at least for me. The first movements felt like muscle twinges/spasms. I'd get them in my tummy, but then something similar in my leg. :) it's only with hindsight I know they were baby now.
